Poland's unemployment rose to 13.5 pct in February

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Government figures show that Poland's jobless rate rose to 13.5 percent in February, up 0.3 percentage point from the previous month.

Figures on the Main Statistical Office website show that some 2.16 million Poles are out of work, compared to 2.12 million in January. February's figure was also higher than the same month a year ago, when 2.15 million Poles were out of work in a country with a population of 38.5 million.

Unemployment usually rises in Poland during the winter, when seasonal jobs in agriculture, construction, tourism and forestry are not available.
