    Police: Driver in Maine crash was texting friends

    WEST PARIS, Maine (AP) — Maine state police say a teenage driver had been drinking alcohol and was texting with friends at an underage drinking party when her car crashed, killing two passengers.

    Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says troopers are focusing on the pre-dawn Saturday crash in West Paris but also are looking into the party and where the teenagers obtained the alcohol.

    He said Monday that 18-year-old driver Kristina Lowe had left the party with some friends and picked up another passenger before attempting to return.

    The car went airborne and crashed into trees, killing 19-year-old Logan Dam and 16-year-old Rebecca Mason. Lowe and another passenger were hurt.

    Troopers cite drinking and driver inattention as factors.

    The driver's dad told the Portland Press Herald newspaper he thought she was in bed but it appears she sneaked out.

      They could make texting while driving illegal but illegal does not mean illegal anymore does it.

      A girl here in Idaho was killed last week while texting. Ran into the back of a slow moving tanker truck with its lights on. She was and Honor student, smart people do stupid things

      I Live in a down town area and am on foot most of the time all i see is people texting and driving young and old it makes me mad because i always see stories like this and to think they could have waited just a little while and they would have been back at the party,maybe they where drinking but they would have been alive! sad!

      My nieces and nephews drink underage. I know about it, I don't encourage it but you can't stop them from doing these things. The only thing you can do is teach them to know right from wrong and hope that they make the right decisions. Unfortunately for all of these kids, they made wrong decisions. My heart goes out to all family and friends of these young people.
