Police: Fla. teen killed parents, then had a party

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A 17-year-old boy is accused of bludgeoning his parents with a hammer, then hosting dozens of friends for a party while their bodies lay in the bedroom, police said Monday.

Tyler Hadley of Port St. Lucie is charged with twin counts of first-degree murder in the deaths, which authorities say happened Saturday. He is being held without bond at a juvenile detention center in Fort Pierce and it's not immediately known whether he has an attorney.

The parents — Blake and Mary-Jo Hadley — were believed to have been struck with the hammer in their heads and torsos sometime after their son posted on Facebook around 1:15 p.m. Saturday alerting friends to an evening party at his house, about 50 miles north of West Palm Beach.

Investigators believe the parents were attacked outside their master bedroom and the bodies were moved into the bedroom and the door locked.

As many as 60 people attended the party that night, according to Port St. Lucie Police spokesman Tom Nichols. They were loud enough to prompt a noise complaint and a visit by police officers. When they arrived at 1:30 a.m. Sunday to warn about the noise, the party was already breaking up, Nichols said.

Then, police said, they received a tip that murder may have taken place. They returned to the home at 4:20 a.m., finding the bodies covered with towels, files, books and other household items, and the hammer between them.

The mother, 47, was an elementary school teacher. The father, 54, worked for Florida Power and Light.

Autopsies were underway, but police said they believed they died of blunt-force trauma.

Hadley had attended St. Lucie West Centennial High School, according to police, but had not graduated. They said they did not know what the motive was.

Nothing like kicking back and having a few brewskis after you've bludgeoned your parent to death. It's Miller Time. You might say it was one helluva bash. Looks like his young a** will be making the pokey circuit of our "penal" system. He probably won't be able to walk for days.

like casey anthony, he just wanted to live the party life and his parents were in the way... another sign of our times where people's selfishness often results in tragedy

He'll be found Not Gulty too. It's Florida.

Notice that killers like him do not have God in their lives--and parents who most likely did not drag his sorry ass to church each week. Moral decay was prophesied in the Bible--long ago. Here's the result of not raising your children with God's laws in their hearts.

@May. I was Never raised with God and never believed and still don't believe in God but you don't see me killing people. God had nothing to play in this killing more then likely.

When adults have control, kids don't do #$%$ like this. How long do we let kids go on thinking just because they exist they are something special before something gets done? Give parents back the right to teach their children real respect and discipline.

And what kind of candy ass pussy parents don't teach their children real respect and discipline and then turn around and blame others for "losing" that ability?

true enough, more times than one I've been told not to discipline my kids because they were something special and their self esteem would suffer for being told what they had done wrong had consequences, I raised my kids (8 of them) knowing the word no... meant no. I faced down many school boards, CPS and child psychologists (quacks) so my kids wouldn't be drugged out losers later in life, so far so good, sadly most parents take the easy way out and let these self-esteem junkies bully them into giving up their role as head of their house. Raising kids right gets harder as more parents cave to the 'new social norm', I for one will continue to raise and love my kids the right way. I love them enough to discipline them when needed, and spoil them when they've done something to deserve it.

Here, here RBT. I don't care if I look cool or not when parenting. Many parents let their kids run all over, climb everywhere like monkeys, let 9 and 10 year olds play violent video games, etc., and don't say anything. No standards=No respect. When there isn't any respect, things like this occur.

Can he be tried as an adult? Please say yes.
      • iohp;oh 10 mths ago
        In Florida YES HE WILL.
      • Ed S 10 mths ago
In NY he wouldn't be a juvenile, 16 and up is big boy jail here.
      • lescarl 10 mths ago
He most definitely will be tried as an adult. What will add to it is the callous disregard that he had for his parent's bodies. I would like to know what caused him to do this? I mean, what, did they say he couldn't do something and he just snapped?

And the government wants to tell me I can't discipline my children?? I discipline them so that they grow up to respect me, other adults, their peers and themselves & not turn out like this sicko. Now parents are living their lives afraid of their own children. This world is upside down!

Amazing your kids didnt kill you in your sleep and tell the the doctors and lawyers how mean you were to them.

What do you expect Brandon...he was never disciplined as a child...oops he still is one!
    • vman  •  10 mths ago
Problem we have in the US. Can't discipline kids anymore. Some people say it isn't right. Well, Teachers fear School Board, School Board fears parents, Parents fear kids and Kids fear no one. Grow up with no fear of consequences and you grow up with no fear.
I grew up in a time when we feared parents finding out about our wrongdoings. Would rather have Dean at school handle the situation than have parents find out because we knew it would be worse if parents found out. This sort of thing didn't happen no where near as much back then as I hear today!!

And Justice Alito says you can't prevent the sale of violent media to these punks.
      • Corey 10 mths ago
Don't blame movies, music, or video games. Blame it on parents wanting to be friends and not the parents of kids, and a society that says if you touch your child we will arrest you and take your kid away.

Same here Vman. I would have rather taken 50 paddlings at school as long as I didn't have to answer to dad. He wasn't abusive but was only going to tell you something once! I lived and learned from that. He demanded and got respect. I raised a daughter mostly alone and though I realize times change but she learned quickly that whining got you no where with me and no really meant NO! She has two kids today and though she doesn't use physical force on them, she is stern and they (my grandkids) respect her and her husbands authority.

Another example of the "I want what I want and I want it now," generation.

Many young people have been raised with no moral compass and therefore no conscience. This is the result.
    • Fay  •  10 mths ago
You ask why we are seeing this more and more??? We have no morals in America any longer...Kids have no respect for their parents or any adult!! We have teens who show no respect to each other and no respect with their body shooting drugs and have sex like dogs ,jumping from one ot another.....What a freakin mess we are in the Unites States!!!

about a month ago I spanked my son at wal mart cuz he was throwin a fit and this lady told me that I shouldnt be doing that because its child abuse and then I noticed a teenager next to her with an ankle monitor and asked her if that was her son and she said yes and I told her maybe if you would have spanked him when he was younger he wouldnt have that monitor on him today...she got mad and walked away...people just because you spank your kid doesnt mean its child abuse...its child abuse when u brutally beat the child and leave marks like bruises

i read in a more extended version of this story, on another news site, that they still don't have a motive. i think they are going to start seeing more and more crimes that lack any reasonable motive, because society is just getting more and more sociopathic/narcissistic. so many people have been utterly desensitized that a totally irrational end (partying) justifies the appalling means (murder). it's pathetic, really, into what society has disintegrated.

We will probably discover that the parents refused to let him have a party at the house so he decided to get revenge by killing them with a hammer....the only weapon he had. Sad commentary on life.
    • victor  •  10 mths ago
Let me guess. he was molested. His parent were animals. The party was just a way of covering his pain. It was also an accident...and his parent kept running into the hammer wearing nail costumes. He's pretty sure Zanny the Nanny did it.

When I was growing up, teachers and principals were aloowed to paddle you. The embarassment alone was enough to get you to stop acting a fool. Parents were allowed to whup that butt in public places without fear of someone calling childrens services. In most cases, other parents encouraged your parents to whup your butt if you're acting up!My best friends mom and dad would "check" me if they saw me out doing wrong. Nowadays you have all of these "so called" therapists who say that "timeout" is a better solution..#$%$ I never wanted to get in trouble because my brother and I both knew that if we acted up, my mom would whup us and dad would too when he got home from work. That's also another reason why kids are acting this way...One parent in the house that's 14 years older than them! In the words of Sly Stone.."Babies makin' babies!"My sons both know that I'm "old school" and I won't tolerate acting up in public, not respecting adults, improper manners. Now will they be perfect? No, but they know what they will deal with if they decide to act up.

I remember my great grandmother telling me that back in the day if someone killed, stole or any major crime they hung them at the end of town and left them there for days on end to let people see the consequences of thier crime! thats why people were able to sleep with their doors and windows open. Oh, and of course god was in the mojority of peoples lives.

My son has recently threatened to bash my face in with a hammer, steal all my things and burn my house down. I had to get a restraining order on my own son for all the good it will do. He is bi-polar/adhd. It amazes me how we love them so much and they grow up and want to kill us. It is absolutely heart breaking. I never hurt him in any way. I sought help for him beginning at age 3. He just got worse the older he got no matter what Dr.s he saw or what meds he took or how much therapy we all had. It crushes your very soul. I am so sad for this family. Belive it or not I even feel sorry for the son. What is wrong with these kids?
