Police in Ga. shut down girls' lemonade stand

MIDWAY, Ga. (AP) — Police in Georgia have shut down a lemonade stand run by three girls trying to save up for a trip to a water park, saying they didn't have a business license or the required permits.

Midway Police Chief Kelly Morningstar says police also didn't know how the lemonade was made, who made it or what was in it.

The girls had been operating for one day when Morningstar and another officer cruised by.

The girls needed a business license, peddler's permit and food permit to operate, even on residential property. The permits cost $50 a day or $180 per year.

One girl, 14-year-old Casity Dixon, says the three had to listen to police and shut down.

The girls are now doing chores and yard work to make money.

The real question is did they pay federal, state, local property, unemployment and worker's comp tax? Give them some of that reality.

What Midway police did not say was that they have an unsolved bank robbery still on their plate or should i say glass!!!

All of you people who support these young hooligans need to get a clue! The cops were right to shut these dangerous thuggettes down. Everyone knows that lemonade is a gateway drink. I used to experiment with lemonade, when I was a tween... pretty soon I had moved on to the hard stuff.. gumdrops, jelly beans, reeses pieces.... before you know it I was hitting the pixie sticks. No.... they need to nip this in the bud before they lose the whole town to refreshment fiends.

Besides, you should never buy your lemonade off the street! Who knows what they put in there. A lot of that street drink is cut with high fructose corn syrup. The sweet pushers will tell you that it's made of corn and fine in moderation but don't believe them.

I won't allow you people to speak ill of those fine members of law enforcement who risk their lives going into lemon dens like this to confront these lemon-aide cookers. They saved countless citizens from this citrus menace.

In related news, kids will now need to meet government regulatory standards for games of tag

I hadn't thought of the mowing "business"...I'll have to check with the boy that mows for me and City Hall if he needs a license...otherwise I could be "put away" in the 'BIG HOUSE" for a long, long, long time!! LOL!

Everyone can rest better now knowing this was taken care of.

Running a stand is a good way for kids to learn about business. For example,, being extorted by the government, shut down by cops, and having to grease a health inspector to operate.

Mark, I never looked at it that way but you are absolutely right....lol! Maybe I'll have my son open a stand and wait for the cops to show up so he can learn this valuable lesson.

More proof that the common denominator among government buearucrats is low intelligence.

I'm glad they got these crooks off the streets. They might have sold lemonade to underaged customers, those customers might have got a sugar high, and then they might have had unusual levels of energy with which they could have enjoyed themselves to death. Ridiculous...

you can come to this country illegally and rip the tax payers off, but god forbid you sell lemonade.

It's comforting to know that Midway Georgia has decided to get tough on the town's worst criminals.

Are you kidding me?! A lemonade stand needs a license?!!? Come on!!

To the people who say the officers were just doing their job - the nazis used that excuse too! It's time to smarten up!!
      • Mary 10 mths ago
Nazis? Seriously? You equate murdering millions with shutting down a lemonade stand?
    • Marc  •  10 mths ago
Now if the girls were selling doughnuts too, they would have had cops lining up for business.
    • Angus  •  10 mths ago
Again? There was a story just like this last year--a lemonade stand shut down for not having permits. Don't remember where that one was. At any rate, I imagine the girls will make more money doing yard work than they ever would have selling lemonade.

What is with the police and local politicians these days? Do they not have anything better to do with their time? They should be out looking for the criminals, not some kid trying to make a little money so they could go have some fun.
This country is turning into a police state.

My heart swells with pride when I think of all the new police stations, police cars, police equipment and more policemen that were hired with Homeland Security money - so the can do s**t like this. We have been bamboozled by our own government. Again.
