DENVER (AP) — Authorities on Sunday arrested the father of a Colorado man accused of breaking into his estranged wife's home before blasting her with a stun gun and pepper spray and kidnapping their 3-year-old son.
Ronald Turner, 72, was pulled over early Sunday in southwest Missouri on a warrant for second-degree kidnapping. He was driving a vehicle with a license plate number listed on an Amber Alert issued Saturday.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe said Turner was alone when he was pulled over and is being held at the Bates County Jail.
The whereabouts of Turner's son, Monty Turner, 51, and his grandson, Luke Turner, are still unknown.
"I'm sure they're (authorities) talking with the grandfather and getting information from him, but at this point in time that information is not available," Lowe said.
Police said Monty Turner assaulted his wife at her Longmont, Colo., home Saturday and left with their child. A court order prohibits the father from contacting his wife and son.
Brandy Turner told reporters Saturday that Luke "is probably scared to death," according to The Denver Post.
She added that when her husband began struggling with her, the boy was yelling: "Please don't hurt my mommy."
Brandy Turner did not return a phone message left by the Associated Press on Sunday.
Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur told the Post that Monty Turner had previously disappeared with the boy, but no crime was committed in that case because both parents had custody rights at the time.
Satur said he did not have a current description of the vehicle the father might be driving. But earlier reports said they might be in a maroon 2001 Dodge Caravan with Colorado tag 576-ZXY; a brown 1997 Ford F350 pickup with Colorado tag 541-YLH or a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Colorado tag 837-UHS.
Meanwhile, Lowe said authorities believe the two might be headed to the Springfield, Mo., area.
"We're still trying to gather as much information as we can, but specifically we don't know where they are right now," he said.
