JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) — Police say a man arrested in connection with a nationwide Amber Alert for a missing 2-year-old in Rhode Island apparently isn't involved in the child's disappearance.
Rhode Island State Police issued the Amber Alert for 2-year-old Isaiah Perez early Sunday after two bodies were discovered at a Johnston home. Police said then they were looking for 22-year-old Malcolm Crowell in connection with the double homicide and kidnapping.
Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said Crowell was captured in Fall River on Sunday afternoon, but Isaiah remained missing. He later backtracked and would only say he was told the man in custody wasn't involved in the child's disappearance. He wouldn't confirm it was Crowell.
Crowell's name and photo have been removed from the Amber Alert.
Procopio referred all calls to Rhode Island State Police, who referred calls to Johnston police. Johnston police haven't returned calls.
