Police in Riot Gear Arrest 20 Occupy Atlanta Protesters

Nineteen Occupy Atlanta protesters were released from police custody today after a raucous night of protesting, in which protesters skirmished with cops in riot gear, on horseback and on motorcycles who were called in to clear them out of Woodruff Park at its 11 p.m. closing time.

“There have been acts of violence throughout the night, all committed by police, all committed towards nonviolent protesters who have come out here simply to show a light on economic injustice in the city. It’s an outrage and the city should be ashamed,” protester Tim Franzen told ABC News Radio.

Protester Brandon Wojcik-Tremblay, 20, who was the 20th person arrested, is still behind bars and is being charged with felony aggravated assault relating to an incident with a motorcycle officer.

A video posted online shows a man standing in front of a motorcycle cop. He appears to be pushing on the motorcycle as the officer tries to drive forward. It is unclear if the man in the video is Wojcik-Tremblay.

Organizers said the officer is at fault.

“Peace was maintained until a policeman on a motorcycle accelerated into a demonstrator,” Occupy Atlanta said in a statement posted online.

Wojcik-Tremblay is scheduled to appear in court Monday for a bail hearing.

Meanwhile, Occupy Atlanta is back in full force today, and plans to stay the course in Woodruff Park again tonight, demonstrators said.

Current unemployment is over 20%.. Median American income has went down 4 straight years.. Housing market is failing.. We are selling these houses to immigrants for visas.. Anyone that thinks this country is in good shape.. U r lost.. We need some real leaders to step forward to get this country back..

Well, the occupy people have shown us what? They have shown nothing but the ablility to point out the same things that we all know. Those in Atlanta have cost taxpayer a half million dollars so far. That money is coming from the 99%.
If they have answers to the problems I'll stand with them.

If they did that we would be able to make our own judgements instead of the one side shown by the reporter.

Can we all agree that private business should be privately funded and at least end corporate welfare and taxpayer support of Exxon Mobil, GE and other companies. large and small? Ditto with agribusinesses like ADM.
      • Logic2009 6 mths ago
If you include one, you must include them all, including Google and Apple. Every company and individual gets tax breaks, from the non-profit all the way to the top two, Apple and Exxon. You cannot be hypocritical with your targeted companies, you must include all of them.
      • Logic2009 6 mths ago
BTW, these are public companies, not private companies. The owners of these companies range from the retirees living off their 401k's and mutual funds to the 25-year old working at Mcdonalds to foreign investors. We are all in this economy together.

Go to Atlanta. See who's there. Anybody with any work ethic hauled it outta there. Guess why it turned into a sheetwhole?? And detroit, and, and......

If "Occupy" truly represents the "99%" then surely they can run and win every seat up for election in 2012 ..... by a landslide.
      • Logic2009 6 mths ago
Yes I have been begging them to put Michael Moore, their hero, on the ballot.

I think that a lot of the troublemakers in the occupy movement are from the other side.

They can't because of fools like you who constantly vote against your best interest.

If OWS were to have a real message, like dissent for our politicians, I would even join them. The politicians allow corporations to pay no tax, the politicians allow corporations to hire cheap overseas labor and the politicians are rich and they create nothing and employ nobody! Our anger to to be focused towards Washington, not against liberals or conservatives......They have us fighting each other over silly ideology, while they live in mansions, fly in jets, travel in limos, take expensive vacations and have millions in the bank! They are not like us Americans at all, they don't live paycheck to paycheck, they aren't jobless or losing money from the economy they created, and their homes are not in foreclosure....
      • LittleDustBunny 6 mths ago
You've hit the message right on the head. That IS what OWS is all about!
      • Chingasos 6 mths ago
        Ditto!

Who keeps voting for these politicians? It's not like they all run unopposed!

It is very frustrating to see all the criticism of the politicians who set up these crooked rules, with no blow-back on an uncaring electorate who keep putting the same types of politicians in power.

They should be forced to go live in places like Africa with the REAL 99%. Where poverty truly exists. Idiots. Need to face the reality of how blessed they are to live in America.

I think that we, as Americans, owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to that young man who had the courage of his convictions to climb atop a cop car last week and poop on it. Finally, someone came forward and gave the OWS movement a symbol of what they all believe and stand for. I would love to see this young fellow on David Lettermans show. I'd really like to see him on top of David Lettermans desk! Every "movement" needs a face and this courageous young fellow certainly deserves that recognition! C'mon Dave! America wants to watch your version of Democracy In Action! We are all "behind" you and Bill Maher and Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart on this one! "Let Freedom Ring" er....splurt, as it were.

Occupy Wall Street has recieve accolades from:
Iran, Russia, China, Communist Party USA, The American Nazi Party and President Obama.

Am I missing something? "Occupy Wall Street" aren't we the protesters the same people who support the rich, banks and corporations by buying and investing in their products. I mean like they wouldn't be rich if it wasn't for us. protesting? whats that going to do? National day, month and year of boycotting the rich will send a loud message.......But can we live without the products we take for granted each day ect... soap, water and food? NO! we need them just like they need us. #$%$ if you do #$%$ if you don't, I have faith in protesting, after all it did bring justice for women and blacks. Let's see how much change occupy wall street will bring??????

Obama's class warfare coming to your town next. Maybe it isn't such a good idea to vote for someone based on the color of their skin.

OK, I have been busy working and have not paid any attention to this protest stuff. What are these people protesting again? Also, as a small business owner that works about 100 hours a week and employs 10 people, I am looking to hire 2 more people. What again is this protesting about?
    • Forward thinking  •  6 mths ago
Smart people would protest in a location that does not close at 11pm. Protestors knew exactly what they were doing when they chose that location.

These "peaceful" protesters are violating laws (curfew violations, noise violations, to name a few) and then get upset when the police enforce the laws. They need to change their name to Occupy Jail.
