Policeman injured, 1 killed in USVI club shooting

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — Authorities in the U.S. Virgin Islands say an off-duty police officer has been wounded while confronting three men suspected of killing a man at a nightclub in St. Croix.

Police said the slain man was shot as he left the club with his girlfriend early Saturday. Someone alerted the off-duty policeman inside the club, and he ordered the suspects to drop their weapons. Shooting followed, with the policeman and all three suspects hit, as well as a bystander.

Authorities say the officer underwent surgery for a chest wound and the suspects will be charged once they're released from the hospital.
