Were there criteria set out for assigning these grades, as in a math class, or was this simply a "pick whom you like" exercise.

Many people who do not like the presidencies of Jackson or either Roosevelt (for example)would nonetheless concede they were highly effective. That's why they don't like them. The most unreconstructed rebel, looking back on Appomatox, would have to say that Lincoln was effective. That's precisely why said rebel would not rank him in the top ten.

I'm amazed that more of them did not give Reagan a low rating. There are so few conservative academics that if the results of this poll impresses you enough to report the results with such glaring headlines, I'm sure you would be astounded at the results of any poll asking how many kids like ice-cream. Then there is also the fact that media hates conservatives and this is just a "There! Educated people don't think he was so great either" piece. Either way - why am I wasting my time on this drivel?

Given that Reagan granted amnesty to millions of illegals, he would have loved the Dream Act.

Based on a poll of 285, that would mean that 114 people with an advanced degree actually think that Reagan was a good president. That is surprising.

the sample size is too small and does not seem to be scientific. I think if done right, you would find 80% at least are lib. dems and did not like Reagan but love Obama.

It is no wonder intelligent educated people classify themselves as "liberal", although that word in much of the world means pretty much the same as "conservative". (E.g.: Australia, South America)

We haven't had a top 10 President since JFK...(Remember, he thwarted nuclear missles in Cuba, and made the Russian Communists back down, no matter his personal life).

Fact Reagan tripled the National Debt with his spending and tax cuts. No other President has ever done more than doubled it. Go Figure!

I don't know who does, I was around during the Ray Gun years and I never remember them being good. I remember a dottering old senile fool of a president, making STUPID statements all the time (ie catsup is a veggie for the school lunch programs, falling asleep in cabinent meetings etc)...and an arrogant #$%$ of a wife who was more interested in her own personal granduer as first lady than anything else. But I supposed if you compare him to Nixon, Ford and the Bush's, maybe he does seem like a "hero" to those desperate to worship someone

What a ridiculous headline. College professors are about the most liberal group there is, made up primarly of socialist and communists. They detested Reagan.
