MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina voters are closer to finding out if the ex-Gov. Mark Sanford will revive his political career or if Democrat Elizabeth Colbert (KOHL'-buhrt) Busch will win the state's vacant 1st District congressional seat.

Polls in the coastal district closed Tuesday at 7 p.m. EDT.

Sanford is attempting to resurrect a political career sidelined by scandal in his personal life. He has said that if he loses the contest for the seat he once held, he will not seek another elected office.

Colbert Busch is the sister of political satirist Stephen Colbert (kohl-BEHR'),

She has focused on her business experience in creating jobs.
