    Poorly Controlled Asthma Can Boost Chances of Pregnancy Complications

    THURSDAY, Aug. 11 (HealthDay News) -- Pregnant women with poorly controlled asthma are at increased risk for pregnancy complications and for having a low-birth weight or premature baby, a new study warns.

    Researchers reviewed data from 1975 to 2009 on more than 1 million pregnant women. Pregnant women with poorly controlled asthma were 50 percent more likely to develop preeclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy) and 25 percent more likely to have a premature baby.

    Infants born to mothers with asthma weighed an average of 0.2 lbs. less at birth than those born to mothers without asthma.

    The study was published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

    "The findings are significant and call for women with asthma to be more closely monitored during pregnancy," study leader Dr. Christina Chambers, a professor of pediatrics at the University of California San Diego and program director of the non-profit California Teratogen Information Service (CTIS) Pregnancy Health Information Line, said in a CTIS news release.

    "It would be advisable for women on regular medications for asthma or having frequent symptoms to be monitored at least monthly during the course of their pregnancies," she suggested.

        Some were saying that the Bible requires it.
        It doesn't and iScriptures Vol.1 shows where.

        Given all I've researched, I'm glad we had our sons done. I'd not hesitate to have my sons circumcised again. Not only for them, but for the lives of the women they're with!! It's repulsive thinking about any bacteria that a female can be contaminated with during sexual relations. And being a woman, it's BAD enough getting an UTI. (Most women my age learned the hard way about urinating afterwards to help avoid one.) Can't imagine a vaginal infection caused by someone else's bacteria!! Males are NOT the cleanest sex by a long ways.

      I really could have told you that one. Four kids, the biggest at 7lbs 9oz, the smallest at 6lbs 14oz. Not really small babies, but I had one preemie baby at 36 weeks (not my smallest), two at 37 weeks (borderline preemie) and the largest baby at 38 weeks. The preemie baby (my last pregnancy) spent 1 week in NICU for strep and pneumonia following an emergency c-section after three natural deliveries. And the pediatricians kept accusing me of being on drugs while my OB monitored my asthma and prepared for complications. I was told by the nurses in the NICU that asthma doesn't cause birth weight and preemie issues so I had to be doing drugs. It was actually my OB that diagnosed my lifetime asthma problems. And for the record, monthly prenatal visits are already the norm.

        Idiotic doctor and nurses. Babies come in all sorts of sizes. 7# something is average. To get average, there have to be lighter ones. Whether medical conditions or not.

      This is one that makes sense!! Asthma affects breathing.. of course it's going to affect the blood cells going to baby!!
