Pope's peace doves slow to taste freedom

A pair of doves seemed to prefer the company of Pope Benedict XVI to the great outdoors on Sunday when he had trouble convincing them to take flight in a traditional peace gesture.

The first dove hesitated on the windowsill of the pope's Vatican apartment for a long spell before flying off, while the second flew back into the room before flying out again.

"They want to stay in the pope's home," Benedict said, flanked by two children.

The traditional release of doves, which the pope said was intended "as a sign of peace for the city of Rome and for the entire world," takes place each year at the end of "peace month" organised by Catholic Action Rome, a lay group that seeks to boost Catholic influence on society.

The group stages a "peace caravan" through the streets of Rome, ending at St Peter's Square at the Vatican.

The dove release came at the end of the pope's weekly recitation of the Angelus prayer to pilgrims gathered in the square.

Attended a wedding where two doves were released after the ceremony. They had been in captivity so long they just fluttered to the ground and slowly walked off.

Before he died, Jesus never set up an elaborate, wealthy church with ranks, along with all the pomp and pageantry. He told his apostles that, if one wants to be first among them, he should become their slave. And also, all men are brothers. (Matt. 20:27, 23:8,9) .He also said: "You will know them by their works". Also Paul warned that, before Jesus returns, a "great apostacy will occur on earth." This can be found in 2Thessalonians 2:5,7,9. The whole concept of "catholicism" came about in the time of Constantine, when he began a debate on the "trinity doctrine", in AD 325. In fact, the first "pope" wasn't installed until AD 440, four centuries after all the Apostles were gone. Does all this sound like the way the Catholic Church works? Far from it

There is no place in the New Testament where there is any hint, or any record of any kind, that Peter was in Rome. Even Paul, who wrote much of the New Testament covering many years, in his letters to Christians in Rome or from the city of Rome, never mentions Peter.
In the last chapter of the book of Romans, Paul sends greetings to 27 members of the church, but he doesn't mention Peter. Catholicism believes Peter was the head of the church there, but Paul did not mention one word of greeting to him.

This point alone should be sufficient to open the eyes of the most blind, the most stubborn, to the fact that Peter was not the founder of the church in Rome. He was not there when Paul wrote @58 AD—supposedly 16 years after Peter was there and founded the church.

... even birds know there is no peace out there to fly to ...

Perhaps they thought it was a trick. Caged bird syndrome.

Whats up with the headline? A fluffy article about doves and the Pope...but the headline reads like the Pope was enslaving them or something...

Im kinda sick of the anti-Catholic bias in the media and these comments. More teachers (and teacher-coaches) molest kids in America than priests, and the teacher's union does more to obfuscate that and protect malfeasent teachers then the bishops ever did.

Plus teachers and their unions take YOUR tax money to do it! The Catholic church is self-funded and does more charity and humanitarian work than any other single body in the world, including the UN.

But all most of you seem to care about is retreading the same tired Letterman jokes from 7 years ago...

over 1.2 b Catholic in this planet, in every country and every continent. Vatican second only to USA the number of Ambassadors.

I am a devout Catholic and will remain so. Despite the evils that are perpetrated by the Vatican. They are men. Just men. The Church is about faith in Christ. The corruption that continuously is reported about in the Vatican will end in many of them finding eternity in hell... but that doesn't change the doctrine of worshiping Christ.

Seven Questions all Catholics must answer:
      1. Why would Catholic priests molest young boys?
      2. Why would Catholic priests knowing allow other priests to molest young boys?
      3. Why would Catholic priests conspire to hide the abuse and protect the guilty?
      4. Why would Catholicism have a system of celibacy which encourages sexual perversion?
      5. Why would offerings given by the Catholic faithful pay for the crimes of their priests?
      6. Why would not the Pope or other Catholic clergy foresee this great evil?
      7. Why are you still Catholic?

As we can see from these comments, hatred poisons the soul, the mind, and the body.

By some of the comments from commentators it proves to the world how much hatred there is, mental sickness, unhappiness, no life, negative, weirdos there are out there!

That's nice! The Catholic Church spent many centuries waging wars on infidels and in foreign lands, and millions died during the Crusades, the inquisition, and during the forced conversions among the native Americans and Asians. So, what do a couple of white doves mean to all the souls the Catholic Church has murdered over the past thousand years? AND MAY ALL THOSE DEAD SOULS (to include martyrs like St. Joan of Arc, murdered by Catholic priests, accused of witchcraft and heresy) PAX VOBISCUM!! (REST IN PEACE!) DONA NOBIS PACEM ABSQUE ECCLESIA CATHOLICA ET ABSQUE PAPAE!!

Peter never went to Rome ! Paul did ! Peter worked with Israel. It is in the bible which God said to study to show thyself approved. Lots of people seem to think this is where the one world religion will come out of ? God said to be sactified ( set apart ). How dare man make God in their image of what they think God wants ! Read His Word ( Jesus is the Word) (made flesh) then you will know the TRUE will of God. You get set apart in your mind and heart and will know His voice. God said HIS sheep WILL know HIS voice and another they WILL not follow. Peace...ha... There is no peace without the prince ( King ) of peace who IS Jesus. Amen ! ( so be it) :~))

What's worse? A peaceful old man in white who points the way to Jesus, or embittered fools who point to their own hate? You decide.
