    Positive Web Design Encourages Small Businesses to Get Online After Release of Shock Statistics

    Positive Web Design, a website design and development agency based in the UK, seeks to do more to encourage small-scale companies to develop their own website after search giant releases sobering statistics.

    Business owners are always looking to make improvements to their company, so it’s come as a surprise to Essex-based web design agency Positive Web Design to find that, according to a report released by Google that was showcased at the Google Engage summit in London last week, 70% of small businesses don’t currently have a website.

    This information conflicts with several other reports released in previous years, such as numbers published by leading specialist SellingToSmallBusinesses.com in 2008 which suggest that in fact nearly half of small businesses do own an online domain.

    Ben Austin, Managing Director and Head of Search at SEO Positive, believes that this clash of data from different sources could be explained by the individual definition of a ‘small company’.

    “Some people consider a ‘small’ business to be a company that has an annual turnover of less than £2 million but there’s no real way of pigeon-holing each organisation”, Ben says. “It is definitely hard to judge the actual statistics, but either way, agencies such as ourselves need to be making sure that more and more companies are advertising online if they’re to really make an impact in their industries”.

    Google’s research also indicates that 20% of Google’s queries focus on local places – huge numbers for all regional businesses who remain convinced that the web just isn’t for them. Ben and the team are looking to encourage interest in the design sector by reviewing their packages and making their professional website design services more accessible to start-up companies and small and micro businesses in the New Year.
