Donations to fund building supplies, health care resources for 1040i's February project to West Africa.

Cousineau, 1040i president, says several facts about living conditions worldwide inspired him to create 1040i and enlist the help of other community volunteers, including doctors, nurses, construction workers and college students, to make trips to Code D’Ivoire, a tiny province in West Africa.
“We live in a world where more than 8 million children will not live to see their sixth birthday and more than 1 billion people, roughly three times the population of the United States, do not have access to medical care or safe drinking water,” says Cousineau. “We may not be able to save Africa, but we can help save one child.”
Cousineau says his request to forego birthday gifts is meant to raise awareness of the devastating issues that West Africa faces.
“The things we take for granted in this country are only a dream to most children and families there,” says Cousineau. “People are dying from unsafe drinking water and lack of access to medical care. Even worse, lack of education keeps them in poverty.”
Cousineau has more than 30 years of experience fighting pain and suffering in West Africa. He says 1040i focuses on a tiny area in the Eastern hemisphere where some of the poorest people live and many area residents live on less than $2 per day. 1040i sends volunteer teams of doctors, business executives, fire fighters, construction workers, nurses and college students from all over the world to help with health, water and education.
In the year and a half since it began, 1040i has successfully completed a water reservoir in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, providing safe drinking for the first time in 300 years. It has offered lifesaving treatment and surgery, including cataract surgery, to hundreds of West African men, women and children, and renovated war-torn schools with new roofs, desks and school supplies that will give the African people hope of escaping the poverty in which they live.
Cousineau’s birthday donations will provide funding for medical and construction teams, which plan to return to West Africa in February 2012 and again in June 2012. Once there, they will offer medical care and surgeries to remote villages with no access to health care, and renovate schools with desks and supplies. Later in the Spring, 1040i will again return to North Africa with eye care, school supplies, and a water project. Cousineau also created a YouTube video that describes his birthday wish.
