President Obama and Occupy Movement -- Time to Take Action

COMMENTARY | As many have predicted, the Occupy Movement has gotten out of hand. Crime, notes Fox News, in the "communities" is on the rise and eviction notices for the occupied areas are being ignored. Businesses around the occupied areas are struggling, says ABC News. It is past time for President Barack Obama to step in and figure out a way to stop the violence and dissidence.

When the Occupy Movement took roots in New York, we all believed the movement would last for a few days to a week or two at most. As the inspiration to speak out spread across the country, more cities were added and more people came out. As psychology would teach, the larger groups get, the more chances you have for irrational behavior and outright crime. Even though President Obama has essentially ignored the movement, I am sure that he has seen the increase in reports of sexual abuse, strikes against the police and the refusal to gather peacefully.

President Obama states he wants to help out small businesses, but he is turning a blind eye to the businesses that have to reduce staff or close their doors because nobody can get to their business because of the Occupy Movement. Like all leaders, the president tries to portray himself as someone that is strict on crime. The occupied areas are riddled with crime, but he does nothing.

The leader of the White House is known for making impressive speeches. Maybe it is time to get those speechwriters together to come up with an impassioned set of remarks that can point out how the Occupy Movement has defeated itself and become a danger to the stability of their neighborhoods. A reduction of numbers can become more manageable by local law enforcement.

The Obama Administration has proven that it would rather deal with foreign affairs by threatening sanctions. It might be time to make threats against the occupiers. The numbers are sure to reduce when the dissidents come to the realization that their movement has spiraled out of control and become a national issue.

It is time for the president to finally take a stand against the movement before their actions get worse. The president needs to say something before the National Guard is called out to evacuate the areas. President Obama needs to speak up, or would his friends at the now-defunct ACORN get upset?

Obama won't do anything because #1 he owes too much to the unions, ACORN, George Soros and all the rich Hollywood types that support the OWS movement. #2 he is not a leader, #3 he's afraid he might lose some votes and #4 he is a divider and doesn't want to fix it.

this movement is just the begining ,this is the work of enough is enough, that is a strong statement.;its like that KENNY ROGERS song the coward of the county ,when he locked that door and said to himself enough is enough .all hell broke loose.he was one, this is many.they will crush any one of anything that gets in there way ,until the greeds are trown in jail, the #$%$ politians are brought to the surface and justice for all in reinstated .we will all and i do say all go down like a submarine that opens up ther hatches before they come out of the water.the day will come when, thell drag you out of your ferrarie and sell the care for scrap.God is behind this world wide movement and a little bit of enough is enough.do your job or they will do it for you.its a shame .you geeky mother buckers are to stupid, to see your signing your own, by by papers?

Owebama will not do anything about anything. Especially about a movement he and his cohorts started. The more crisis, the better Owebama likes it. He IS the deer in the headlights and the headlights are the 2012 election baring down on him to run him out of office.Worst president ever. Makes Carter look like a genius and Nixon look like a law abiding citizen.

      NObama 2012
      • Thelma Reyna 6 mths ago
@Last Crusader: Do your homework, and get your facts straight. President Obama did not start the Occupy Movement. Most of the Occupiers are INDEPENDENTS, and Pres. Obama is a Democrat. The movement even includes Republicans. Yes, it does. Democrats are only 25% or so of the group. What Conservatives don't want to accept is that this movement is THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, ALL ACROSS THE SPECTRUM, GRASS-ROOTS, SELF-ORGANIZED, VOLUNTARILY SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THE EXTREME ACTIONS THAT THE 1% and the ultra-right wingers are taking against the middle class, the poor, the elderly, the children, the students, women, ethnic minorities, the gays...in other words, against the 99%. Wake up. 99% is MOST OF AMERICA
    • A Yahoo! User  •  6 mths ago
so when the movement started and was not viewed as a threat it was ok. Nevermind the govt and those that own it are forcing these people to pay trillions for things that are of little consequence to them. Send their children to die for oil and arms barrons including the Saudi's and take away their homes while bailing out those who will seize them... That they completely sold the government to the corporate interests and wall st. (as in almost al the govt. are shareholders and allowed (as in its legal) to engage in insider trading) that is all ok. But exercising the constitutional right of assembly and petition is wrong? The masses slowly gaining power and strength saying they are not going to take it anymore, should be stopped? Now, go to wikipedia and look up fascism or plutocracy - you will see we more or less have both.

James and Tie, get a job and get out of my wallet. Either that, or move to another country of your choice where you can enjoy the utopian socienty you seem to think exists elsewhere.
      • Neil 6 mths ago
Obama said that he is supportive of the occupy movement of which he is a main player. He is all for making our country a communist nation because almost everything he is doing is destroying our nation. Obama has kept talking about the evil 1% or inversion of 99%. Wake up people in occupy movement; you are being used by the democratic party. Most people in the occupy movement really don't want or could not survive in a communist nation because there whining would be punished severely.

Out of Hand!!!! Just who is "Out of Hand"? Perhaps our President is beginning to see that the People of the United States of America" Are not just a bunch of complacent, brain washed bunch of sheep as he may have believed. It is time for others to stand up and let this government know we have had it! Just who does this President thinks "Employs" him!

This is one of the most uninformed, biased, unsubstantiated articles I have ever read on YahooNews. My former junior high students and high school students could have written a more informed, factual piece. The writer, Vincent Poupard, cites Fox News as one of his sources, and that's why this article is so twisted and incorrect. Remember that a recent survey shows that Fox viewers are the most uninformed and misinformed when compared to the general American population across our nation. Check it out. Look it up. It's a fact.

On this Occupy issue, Mr. Poupard should have done his homework and gone fact-checking, which the Republicans on Fox do NOT like to do. The lies Mr. Poupard spews are the same, cliche, worn-out lies that Eric Cantor and other Republicans first started saying two months ago. The "patriotic" Republicans who are always talking about the importance of following our Constitution definitely don't give a hoot about freedom of speech and peaceful assembly (and the Occupiers ARE PEACEFUL) if the message is against what the GOP stands for. Yes, the OWS movement is strongly against what the GOP stands for.
      • lazy t 6 mths ago
anti socialist snipers are a fact, They are waiting for the police to go away and stop protecting OWS
      • Jersey 6 mths ago
The GOP has absolutely nothing to do with the OWS movement. And you have the right to peaceful assembly.....that is it. You do not have the right to occupy a park for two months, set up tents, defy police, obstruct local businesses, obstruct tourism, deficate in public, rob other protesters, bang drums and chant and scream at passersby. OWS when it first started had a message but that message is lost with al the nonsense and violence that is now going on across this country. This is not a democrat or republican thing so get off your biased soapbox and see it for what it is. And I agree with the article. It is time for the prez to step in and put an end to this. But no, he would rather sit back and lead from behind as always. If something really bad happens, it will be Obama's fault not the GOP. By the way, Thelma have you honestly ever sat down and watched a Fox News show, I'd but money you haven't.
      • Thelma Reyna 6 mths ago
Well, give up your money. I have watched Fox News almost on a daily basis for a few years now. Actually, I alternate between CNN, Fox, MSNBC, and local channels. More important, I READ A LOT from different print sources to better inform myself. As any educated person knows, you can't rely solely on TV for information. What I have seen is that Fox focuses on bashing our President. When the flooding was going on throughout the East Coast and people were dying, Fox didn't talk about it much. When the BP oil spill occurred in the Gulf, CNN had almost round-the-clock coverage about it. Everytime I tuned in to Fox, the "talking heads" and "panels of experts" were just sitting around bashing our President.

Almost everytime something of huge national importance occurs, all the other channels do a MUCH BETTER JOB OF REPORTING THAN FOX NEWS. Remember who created Fox and why: to spin the news and maintain a consistent onslaught against Democrats and particularly our first Black President, whom Fox hated even before the poor man ever even took his oath of office. Also, former employees of Fox News have come out and talked openly about the very racist attitudes of Fox commentators. Wake up. Murdoch and Roger Ailes have always had a clear non-objective, non-journalistic motive. Even Ailes has said as much in interviews. He calls his show "entertainment," NOT FACTUAL, INTELLIGENT JOURNALISM. That itself says it all!

    • anchor baby  •  6 mths ago
Yes mr Vicent Poupard ,is time for Obama to speak ,but to support the movement,.get it ..we don't believe conservatives sold out fascist..so stop talking bad about them ..they are braves .you a coward....
    • Vickie  •  6 mths ago
Not one bit surprising here ! First the Black Panther voter intimidation incidents, Fast and Furious disaster, and now the Occupy Group Squatters. Obama just ignores illegal violations from his pet interests........ After all, he gets to pick and choose what parts of the Constitution he subscribes too.

maybe our government and government officials should look at what the american people are really saying. why should it be ok for elected officials and not everyone else? why should the multimillion dollar companies get tax breaks? why should we have our taxes increased when any senator, house of representative, vp or even the pres get full pay and medical for the rest of their lives and we have to bust our #$%$ to get our peddley little pay every week? why? why? why?
    • josh  •  6 mths ago
The beast screams loudest when it's dying and OWS is dying it's masters obama & democrats had to put it out of it's misery . You can't blame them for killing it off has really gotten out of hand with killing, rapes, stealing, crapping on the American flag and the list goes on and on
    • Lynn  •  Nashville, United States  •  6 mths ago
"Eviction notices are being ignored" because they shouldn't be able to evict ANYONE'S rights...including the right to protest. And, that right we are all expressing as we comment ever so publicly, remember this one: free speech? And the notices are not being ignored, they're being fought against. If you don't hear anything else, please, oh please hear this: NO MATTER YOUR OPINION, AND THANK GOD YOU CAN HAVE ONE, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS OUR OPINIONS! If I don't like your opinion, it doesn't mean I can just have you removed, as much as I may want to do so;)

Money equals power right now. So let's redefine what is powerful. I, YOU, and most of all WE are powerful!!! WE as people matter. WE do not have to be dollar signs anymore.

Do WE matter? YOU and I decide.
    • Lucky Lady  •  Castro Valley, United States  •  6 mths ago
Who on earth is this author, L. Vincent Poupard (some kind of obscure mustard?), and where does he get the nerve to say Occupy is "out of hand"??? Where was this clown when Wall Street was crashing the world economy, looting our 401K's, crashing home prices, and shoveling in massive bailout taxpayer money for top exec bonuses? NOW THAT'S OUT OF HAND! The rest of the country exercising their 1st Amendment Rights - is called Democracy! Similar to our Revolutionary War - Patriots across the country have had ENOUGH. This guy (and Yahoo) ought to be ashamed. Yes, homeless & drug addicts are showing up for free food, but the police ought to see this, not restrict those fighting for all 99% of the rest of us. Lose your job yet? Then write a nice letter to Mr. Poupard and see if he cares...
    • CraigZ  •  Chicago, United States  •  6 mths ago
Not being one of the 1%, I don't think the President should do anything about the Occupy movement. I think he should do something about Wall Street.
    • Wow2  •  Portland, United States  •  6 mths ago
OWStreeters unite! Obama is about to pull back on his support. It's making him look bad. But, we need him. Without him we look just like vagabonds on the street screaming (beggars are banned) for handouts. We want power over the Wall St., without going through the proper channels. Big deal.
    • echo  •  Grand Rapids, United States  •  6 mths ago
maybe if the cops wouldn't all flood to Occupy Campsites and stare at demonstrators, they'd have a better chance of policing the rest of their cities? just a thought.
    • Glenn  •  6 mths ago
Sorry Mr. Poupard, but I don't think you're looking hard enough of the cause and effects of things you complain about and attribute to the Occupy movement. Had things not been 'out of hand' to begin with, these protests would not be happening, and so long as people like you fail to see that, they will continue.
