Princess Leia ‘Slave’ Bikini Fetches Small Fortune At Auction
The revealing bikini worn by Princess Leia in ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi’ has sold for an eye-watering £63,000 at auction.
The gilded two-piece, won by Carrie Fisher’s character when she’s captured by Jabba The Hutt in the third ‘Star Wars’ film, was sold by US firm Profiles In History after fierce bidding opened at £52,000, according to a report on BBC News.
The unnamed winner also received the collar, some chain links, and a letter of authenticity from the prop’s designer Richard Miller.
It’s one of the most iconic and controversial movie costumes of all time and was once described by Fisher as “what supermodels will eventually wear in the seventh ring of hell”.
She famously disliked the costume because it had a tendency to reveal more on set than she was comfortable with.
“I had to tape them [my breasts] down, because there’s no underwear in space. George [Lucas, creator] knows that for a fact,” Fisher once said.
“When I laid down, the metal bikini stayed up. So Boba Fett could see all the way to Florida.”

She also slammed Lucas for the degrading arc her character had to endure telling Rolling Stone around the time of the film’s release: "She gets to be more feminine, more supportive, more affectionate. But let’s not forget that these movies are basically boys’ fantasies. So the other way they made her more female in this one was to have her take off her clothes.”
The price fetched by the bikini was eclipsed by a miniature model of Leia’s “Blockade Runner”, the ship that crosses the screen in the opening shot of 1977′s ‘Star Wars’.
The CR90 Corvette model sold for £296,000 making it the most expensive ‘Star Wars’ artefact ever sold.
Carrie Fisher will reprise the role of Princess Leia (with no bikinis in sight) when ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ hits UK cinemas on 17 December.
