Printing couture at New York Fashion Week

Couture fashion meet Epson printers.

Epson, the Japanese electronics company, is venturing into the world of fashion with its new textile printing technology.

Epson partnered with 11 designers from North and Latin America to create collections showcased at New York Fashion Week. The designers used Epson’s F-Series dye-sublimation printers and F2000 Series direct-to-garment ink jet printers to produce the unique and vibrant patterns.

“We’ve been in the textile business for about three years, and we’ve seen tremendous growth around the world,” said Keith Kratzberg, executive vice president at Epson America.

“With the digital technology you can produce whatever the designer can imagine,” said Kratzberg. “It gives them incredible power to harness their creativity, and it lets them produce materials much faster than what was available before.”

While the digital textile printing market is expected it grow by 34% in the next three years, don’t expect to have these printers at home any time soon.

It’s not yet something anyone can do, Kratzberg told us, “But it’s certainly easier to get into,” he said.
