Pro-Gun Mother Shot By Her Own Four-Year-Old ‘Could Face Charges’

A mother who was shot by her own four-year-old son could face charges over the incident, officials have said.

Jamie Gilt, 31, was at the wheel of her car when her son shot her with a loaded .45 calibre weapon - only a day after she had boosted of her shooting skills.

She reportedly wrote on Facebook: ‘‘Even my 4 year old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22,’.

But investigators have refused to confirm if the pro-gun Facebook account belonged to Gilt, and have instead concentrated on what happened during the incident.

Police say that Gilt put a loaded .45-caliber handgun underneath the front seat of her pickup on March 8 - which slid into the back seat where her son Lane was sitting in a booster seat.

He had recently learnt how to unbuckle himself from the seat - and got up to pick up the gun before firing it through the front seat.

A police report also found that there was a toy dinosaur near where the gun would have slid.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Capt. Gator DeLoach said: ‘She felt something strike her in the back, then noticed the windshield of her truck was broken.’

The bullet exited through the women’s chest and went through the windshield. The child was uninjured.
