PSL announces radio plans

The Premier Soccer League and the South African Broadcasting Corporation have outlined plans to further expand football coverage on local radio stations. The two organisations have been engaged in discussions regarding a decision to make South Africa's top flight more accessible on platforms other than television, and PSL CEO Brand de Villiers has confirmed that radio is seen as one of the ways forward. "We are delighted to have reached the implementation phase of this important partnership between ourselves and SABC Radio," De Villiers said in an official statement. "For the PSL and millions of football lovers in this country, radio remains one of the main sources of information and the implementation of this partnership will enable the PSL and its clubs to communicate on a daily and hourly basis with their supporters. "We will promote our fixtures using the 11 official languages and create a platform for conversations." The decision will see 11 already established SABC radio stations increase their PSL coverage, both in terms of matchday action and club news, with the plan to kick off on Wednesday, July 30.
