Puerto Rico Cheo Feliciano wake attracts hundreds

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Hundreds of people are attending a wake for Puerto Rico salsa great Cheo Feliciano.

Panamanian salsa singer Ruben Blades was among several musicians who arrived Saturday at the Roberto Coliseum stadium in San Juan to honor Feliciano.

The two-day wake will be followed by his burial Monday in his hometown of Ponce, Puerto Rico's second largest city.

The 78-year-old singer died in a car accident on Thursday. Police said he hit a light post in the northern suburb of Cupey and was not wearing a seatbelt.

His wife, Socorro "Coco" Prieto Leon, said he was coming back from a casino.

Feliciano was a member of the Fania All Stars and one of the most recognized salsa singers.
