Puerto Rico to be featured in NBC pirate series starring John Malkovich

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Puerto Rico's governor says the U.S. territory will serve as the backdrop for a new NBC series featuring actor John Malkovich as the 18th Century pirate Blackbeard.

Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla says the project will generate more than $29 million in revenue and is expected to create more than 1,500 jobs. He said Tuesday that the series "Crossbones" will be filmed at the former Roosevelt Roads U.S. naval station in the eastern city of Ceiba.

He says the series also will be filmed in the northeast coastal towns of Luquillo and Fajardo as well as in historic Old San Juan for five months.

NBC has announced the series will be aired in the second half of the 2012-2014 television season.
