As a policeman, Marcus Montgomery is used to every day being different.

Finding an adorable puppy to adopt while on duty was an unexpected turn of events for the Florida officer however, but clearly a welcome one.

The Fort Walton Beach officer was sent to the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) centre to deal with a situation with a former employee.

But business turned to pleasure when, just as he was wrapping up his investigation, he clocked super-cute pooch, Kylo, who’d been abandoned in a box outside the building.

He told BuzzFeed: “The supervisor came in with this little puppy in her hands. You could tell he’d been sleeping because his eyes were heavy and he was yawning constantly.

“I just looked in his eyes as he yawned at me, and I told [the] supervisor, ‘Don’t bring him in here, because I will take him home right now,’” he said.

He added that cute Kylo was the ideal addition to his family of three.

“Me and my girlfriend have wanted another dog for so long because Vader, our other rescue, loves meeting other dogs and playing with them,” he said.

“Our pit bull Vader was [at a shelter] for over a year, with so many folks looking past him. When we originally saw him, he was so depressed.

“We knew Kylo, even at his age, people would just look past him and not want to deal with the responsibility that comes with a dog like him.”
