An earthquake measuring 4.4 gave residents north of Wellington a decent jolt on Friday night.
The earthquake was centred 55km west of Levin and was 87km deep. It struck at 11.29pm, GeoNet said.
There were no damage reports but 812 people registered felt reports on GeoNet's website, with most saying it was light.
There was also a magnitude 3.6 quake centred 35km northeast of Kaikoura at 5.55am on Saturday.
