Queen Latifah Signs on to Participant’s ‘Teach,’ Makes It Even Awesomer

Ever wish there were more intelligent, funny, charismatic, inspiring women on TV? So do we. Which is why we’re pretty jazzed to learn that Queen Latifah—musician, actress, author, role model, and all-around amazing woman of style and substance—is not only launching her own syndicated talk show, but she’s also signed on as host and narrator of Teach, a new two-hour TV special from our parent company, Participant Media.

The program, which premieres Friday, September 6, on CBS, is directed by Academy Award-winner Davis Guggenheim, whose previous films include An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman, and The First Year. Teach follows the journey of four extraordinary teachers through a year of challenges, triumphs, innovations and unforgettably moving classroom bonds with their students. (Seriously. Try watching it and not tearing up.)

Latifah, herself the daughter of a New Jersey public school teacher, knows the value and power of a great educator. “My mother was a teacher at the same high school I attended,” she says. “She was a great teacher who, in fact, was loved by all and played an important role in so many of her students’ lives.”

Guggenheim, for his part, is thrilled to have Latifah involved.

“Queen Latifah knows firsthand the impact of a great teacher,” he says. “She brings that understanding and passion, as well as her own tremendous talent, to this project.”

We said it in 1989 and we’ll say it again: All Hail the Queen.

You can watch Teach Friday, September 6, 8-10 p.m. ET/PT, on CBS.
