The Queen Took a Commuter Train

From Town & Country

The Royal Express rolled into London on Monday.

Actually, it was just a 10:54am commuter train, but a special passenger was onboard: Queen Elizabeth II, returning home to London after her Christmas break at Sandringham, the Telegraph reports.

The fare for a first-class seat like the one the queen occupied for the hour-and-40-minute trip would be £54.90, or about $80.

"It's an honour to have her use the train service," station manager Graeme Pratt told the Eastern Daily Press. "I asked her if she enjoyed her stay in Norfolk [and] she said she did."

The queen arrived at the station five minutes before the train's departure and entered through a side entrance that was renamed the Queen's Gate in 2012 after King's Lynn was refurbished.

Her majesty regularly rides the rails for her Balmoral trips, proving that sometimes, royals really are just like us.
