RAI Com Scores Sales On ‘Chlorine’ And ‘Latin Lover’ EXCLUSIVE

Italian pubcaster RAI’s sales arm RAI Com has scored its first sale on Italian first-timer Lamberto Sanfelice’s Berlin Generation drama “Chlorine” and is doing brisk biz with Cristina Comencini’s ensemble laffer “Latin Lover,” which boasts a stellar cast including late great Italian actress Virna Lisi.

Paris-based arthouse distributor Paradis Films has taken French rights to “Chlorine,” a coming-of-ager about a teenage girl whose dreams of becoming a synchronized swimming champ are sidelined by a family tragedy. Pic, produced by Ang Film and Ginevra Elkann’s Asmara Films, screened in Berlin segueing from its Sundance bow. Good Films will release in Italy.

Spain’s Wanda Distribucion Cinematografica, Australia’s Palace Films and Taiwan’s Swallow Films have picked up Cristina Comencini’s “Latin Lover,” a comedy that turns on a group of women who descend from different countries upon a Southern Italian village for the commemoration of a famous dead actor, known for being an epitomal Italian stud. He is played by Sicilian thesp Francesco Scianna (“Baaria”). Comencini’s “Don’t Tell” was nommed for a foreign-language Oscar in 2005.

Besides Lisi (pictured) the “Lover” cast comprises Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Spanish stars Candela Pena (“All About My Mother”), Lluis Homar (“Bad Education”), Marisa Paredes and Australian-born rock singer Nadeah Miranda. RAI Com international sales topper Mattia Oddone said there is also strong German interest in the promising pic, which is produced by Lionello Cerri. RAI Cinema’s 01 Distribuzione is releasing “Lover” in Italy on March 19.
