Rambus loses in patent dispute
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) — A U.S. International Trade Commission judge has determined that several competitors of Rambus Inc. did not violate the chip maker's patents as it claimed.
Rambus, based in Sunnyvale, has recently pursued a number of patent claims to protect its property and boost royalties from its designs.
The ruling announced by Rambus Friday covered a complaint filed in 2010 in which Rambus claimed that LSI Corp., MediaTek Inc. and STMicroelectronics used its technology in a number of their products.
The administrative law judge determined the companies did not violate the patents as claimed.
Rambus said it has yet to receive the judge's decision but was disappointed with the initial result. The company can request a review of the judge's decision in front of a full commission, which could lead to a change in the outcome.
Shares of Rambus fell 25 cents, nearly 4 percent, to close at $6.81. They fell another 21 cents in after-hours trading.
