Rapper Snoop Dogg Arrested on Marijuana Charge in Sierra Blanco, Texas

The rapper Snoop Dogg has joined the list of celebrities who have been caught holding marijuana at a checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas, near El Paso. Dogg was arrested and then released at the Border Patrol checkpoint, according to the El Paso Times.

The area around the checkpoint is famous for having caught a number of celebrities on drug charges, including Willie Nelson and rappers Paul Wall and Baby Bash. Even Johnny Cash ran afoul of the law, having been caught on a drug charge in 1965.

What led to Snoop Dogg's arrest?

Snoop Dogg's tour bus was stopped at the Border Patrol checkpoint. A drug sniffing dog was used to search the bus. A red prescription bottle was found in a trash can in the back of the bus with marijuana cigarettes inside. In all 10 pounds of marijuana was found inside the bus.

    What happened next?

Dogg was arrested by Border Patrol agents and charged with a Class C misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. He has been ordered to appear in court on or before Jan. 20. Dogg said he was in San Antonio to watch his son's football game. He claims to have a California medical marijuana license due to headaches and blurred vision.

Is this Snoop Dogg's first run in with the law?

On marijuana charges alone, Dogg has faced the law numerous times. In 1998, 2001, twice in 2006, at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and after performing on the "Tonight Show," and again in 2007 he was arrested on marijuana charges. This list does not include numerous non drug offenses Dogg has been charged with.

Who have been some of the other celebrities caught in Sierra Blanca?

The most celebrated case was that of Willie Nelson, who was caught at the same checkpoint and arrested for possession of 6 ounces of marijuana. A story was published in the media that Nelson was asked by the judge to sing in his courtroom as part of his punishment. Later it was claimed the story was a joke. Nelson's case is still pending after a plea agreement was rejected.

Cash was arrested in the same general area in 1965 and was held in the El Paso County Jail on drug charges. According to the El Paso Times, Cash had 668 Dexadrine and 475 Equanil tablets he had purchased on the street in Juarez, Mexico. The judge fined him a $1,000 and gave him a suspended sentence.

How is it possible that rich and famous people just get around the law like this? I support legalization, not just for medicinal use, but recreational use also. But is really makes me angry when the laws just dont apply to people with money. He got busted with 10 lbs. Last time i checked thats a pretty serious felony, not a class C misdemeanor. #$%$

Obviously financing the drug cartels in Mexico is no big deal. The U.S. should make up it's mind before more people die. Are drugs legal or not?
      • G 4 mths ago
Well if made legal it would eliminate a source of income for the Mexican drug cartels. Another question: Why is Marijuana illegal?
    • randy  •  Texarkana, Texas  •  4 mths ago

I never smoked it. Medical marijuana prescriptions help patients who suffer from conditions including: MS, HIV/AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, hepatitis C, ALS, Crohn's disease, Alzheimer's disease, nail patella, cachexia or wasting syndrome, severe/chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, epilepsy, muscle spasms, anorexia, arthritis, migraine, decompensated cirrhosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, painful peripheral neuropathy, MD, inflammatory bowel disease, and other serious conditions. In 1998, 69% of the citizens in Washington, D.C. voted to legalize it. Republican Congress at that time blocked implementation by withholding funding. It passed unanimously in 2010. Cannabis extracts killed cancerous tumors on patients suffering from squamous cell carcinoma. Montel Williams has a few videos on youtube that will educate you out of your stereotypical concerns. 16 states already legalized it and Washington DC. For the last 37 years, every month on the 17th, patients around the US received cannistars of marijuana grown and dispensed through a program out of the University of Mississippi. The Fed. Gov. gave itself a patent on the 3 chemicals that were identified through research paid for by the Fed. Gov. in the US and countries like Israel because within the next year the patent on a chemical called marinol, which is sold here in the US, will run out and there are pharmaceutical companies lined up to fill the void with a generic real cannabis based product rather than synthetic. The initial reaction people have to legalizing it is that it will be hijacked by drug dens to sell drugs. That's not what is going on. A serious protocol has been set up in Sacramento California to be followed by the 16 states and Washington DC. and in Israel where since 1997, doctors dispense this to their patients at state run hospitals on a monthly basis in a way that makes it no different than any pharmaceutical agent. They’ll also reach out to the other 9 countries that have changed their cannabis laws as well to allow compassion for the people who can utilize it as a medical agent. The laws are not written to allow public access. Washington DC has the most stringent laws over any other and will be the final followed protocol. There is a serious limit to the amount that the facilities can grow and dispense which also kills any idea of it being a money making opportunity for dealers, etc. It is monitored more stringently than any of the commercial drug stores out there. People are suffering and currently being over prescribed in narcotics. This legalization would make cannabis a viable option. This has been going on for a lot of years and constantly made more stringent to eliminate the possibility of it being hijacked by drug dealers, etc. The current narcotics being prescribed are causing too many undesirable consequences. Diamorphine is prescribed to people with cancer and that is less than a molecule away from Heroin and is prescribed by doctors every day. That doesn't affect a lot of illnesses that would be affected from various parts of the cannabis plant. The scientists and doctors are finding the chemicals in this plant that will provide the medical capabilities that patients need. Our gov. has already confirmed it's medical efficacy. The main issue now is getting it to the people that need it. The most current protocol and legislation written makes it impossible to violate. There’s a serious limit to the amount that can be grown and dispersed. The growth facilities are closed facilities not accessible by the public. Only secured outward access to take them to a dispensory. At the dispensory you must be a registered doctor with a vailid recommendation for a registered patient. Patient must be registered which informs the community that the patient is receiving medical marijuana for a medical condition. Sacramento California facility can be inspected any time.

I agree with the Kinks----give the people what they want! A legal marijuana ,taxed and regulated ,would pay for many people's health care!

Take weed away from Snoop Dogg??? May as well change the colors of the US Flag!!

The dog (not the Dogg) sniffed the bus, walked away and demanded a six pack of White Castle Burgers with fries but settled for a large bowl of Pedigree Chicken, Rice and Vegetables.
