Ratings: NBC and ABC Catch Up to Fox, ‘American Idol’ in 3-Way Key Demo Tie

Things got pretty crowded on the Nielsen ratings sheet last night, as NBC, ABC and Fox all finished in a three-way tie up top. CBS was just one-tenth of a ratings point away from joining the first-place party.

While NBC finished first alone in total viewers, the network was preempted in the Portland market by an NBA game, potentially goosing its numbers temporarily.

Fox is now at the point where “American Idol” airs only one hour instead of two, opening the door for the other broadcast networks on Wednesday nights.
