RATINGS RAT RACE: NBC Wins Tuesday GOP Convention Coverage, ‘MasterChef’ On Fire, ‘America’s Got Talent’ Dips

It was Ann Romney’s turn on center stage on television last night but it was NBC that got the convention bounce. While ABC, CBS and NBC all simultaneously broadcast live the speeches of the wife of the Republican nominee for the White House and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie at the GOP Convention in Tampa on Tuesday, NBC got the highest ratings. The network got a 1.3/4 rating, up 8% from the comparative night of the last GOP Convention four years ago on September 2, 2008. NBC’s coverage had a total viewership of 5.387 million. CBS got a 0.6/2, down 25% from four years ago in Indianapolis. ABC got a 0.5/2 rating, down 38% from 2008. CBS had 3.322 million viewers total for its RNC coverage on Tuesday night, ABC had 2.341 million total viewers. Based on fast affiliates estimates not being time-zone adjusted, the numbers for the networks’ live convention coverage are likely to change later today. The one-hour of primetime that ABC, CBS and NBC gave to the RNC wasn’t the only thing live on TV last night. America’s Got Talent (2.4/7) had a live two-hour semifinal show on NBC from 8 PM to 10 PM. The first week of the show’s semifinals had 12 of the 24 remaining contestants aiming for the finals saw the show dip 4% from last week. After a repeat of MasterChef (1.5/5) at 8 PM, Fox had a new MasterChef (2.8/8) at 9 PM. The Gordon Ramsey-hosted cooking competition series was up 17% from last week among Adults 18-49. Hitting its highest rating this summer so far, MasterChef was also up 8% in terms of total viewers from last week, pulling in 6.5 million compared to 6.0 million. Fox won the night in terms among Adults 18-49 but NBC took it in terms of total viewers.

On ABC it was all repeats aside from their convention coverage with The Middle (0.8/3), Last Man Standing (0.8/2), Happy Endings (0.7/2) and Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23 (0.5/1). CBS had a NCIS (1.2/4) encore at 8 PM, followed by a NCIS: Los Angeles (1.1/3) repeat at 9 PM.
