    Rebecca Minkoff at Fashion Week: Color and spunk

    NEW YORK (AP) — Designer Rebecca Minkoff imagined a strong and independent woman wearing the colorful, sparkly fall collection shown at New York Fashion Week.

    "That's what I wanted to shine through," said Minkoff, who found inspiration in actor Ewan McGregor's 2004 documentary series "Long Way Round" about a motorcycle trip around the world.

    The designer's spunky muse came through on the runway Friday with biker jackets, tuxedo pants and leather racer pants inspired by menswear. Color popped in a sequined T-shirt, purple python print shorts and trench, and an orange short-sleeved dress with slits at the shoulders. Minkoff paired some looks with skinny pants and shiny black leggings.

    The show opened with rapper Theophilus London singing before the models started walking the runway. Models wore high-heel booties and had their hair in loose buns.

    Actress Kristin Chenoweth, who sat in the front row, said she has several of Minkoff's bags and looks to the designer for wearable clothes.

    "It's still chic but the color is there," Chenoweth said. "Nothing seems heavy. It all seems light."
