Al Jazeera kicked off its Rebel Architecture series with an installment on Spanish "subversive architect" Santiago Cirugeda, who rehabs and occupies Spanish architectural projects—"around 500,000 new buildings lie empty"—left amidst the country's economic collapse. "Sometimes we do things that are illegal, but we're not doing anyone harm," he says of his team, which craft informal communes out of "fast-build, mobile structures" made from discarded and reused materials.
