Although Plumbworld doesn’t make a habit of employing people constantly, as they try and keep staff turnover as minimal as possible, sometimes a new position is created which thus makes space for a new recruit.
To fill this position usually requires a lot of skill and relevant experience, however, some positions can really apply themselves to students with virtually no experience, but a passion and a will to learn and work hard. Neither of the positions come around very often, therefore there is usually a lot of competition for positions with roughly 50+ applications each.
Paul Dickinson, the newest recruit has been put into the role of product manager for some of the sub-sites in the Plumbworld Empire. He will be responsible for product selection and sourcing new products to fit into the website alongside existing products. Whether it is sourcing new bathrooms and suites, shower enclosures or various plumbing supplies, there will always be a different challenge around the corner.
Mark Canfield, Commercial Manager at Plumbworld commented on the new lad starting: “This will be a tough but rewarding role as Paul will be able to see the sourced products selling on the website and making the business money. Knowing that he is directly contributing to the success of the business will be a real motivator; however, it also comes with the power to source items that don’t sell; so he must ensure that his product selection is top notch to avoid this”. Mark continues to say; “So far, the position looks very suited to Paul as he has settled into the role very well and is already conversing with everyone in the commercial departments and others within marketing and customer services – his communication skills are strong; a requirement of any successful employee.”

Plumbworld was established in 1999 by James and Anita Hickman and was later sold to the Grafton Group PLC in December 2006, they now employ over 50 people in their purpose built warehouse and offices and turnover close to £20 million a year. The Plumbworld Empire expands month by month with new additions to staff and websites; the current website count sits at 50+ with more in the pipeline. The websites vary hugely and specialise in anything from barbecues and bathroom suites to log splitters and Mira showers.
