Redditors Are Taking Over the Internet

Congratulations, Redditors. Your domination of the Internet continues apace.

(Pew)

Six percent of Americans are addicted to the front page of the Internet, according to a nationally representative survey of U.S. Web users.

The results, gathered by the Pew Research Center, break down as you might expect. Reddit is heavily dominated by young men. Fifteen percent of guys ages 18-29 use Reddit, compared to 5 percent of women in that group—an average of 11 percent for the cohort overall. The sex ratio balances out a little more for slightly older Americans, where 8 percent of men and 5 percent of women call themselves Redditors.

For Reddit users, the report itself will be an entertaining read.

"Reddit is often pivotal in the spread of popular memes," it explains, "like Ridiculously Photogenic Guy, Overly Attached Girlfriend, and Sudden Clarity Clarence."

Surprisingly—or not, considering Reddit's egalitarian culture—economic inequality across Reddit users is pretty much a non-factor. Users of the site make up 6 percent of all earners, from $30,000 a year to $75,000 and up.

But that doesn't mean redditors are all educationally similar. Those without a high school degree are more likely to be on Reddit compared with their better-educated peers, though not by much. The difference is about 2 percentage points.

Lest you think Reddit falls completely into stereotypes, the service attracts 2 percent of rural Web users and 2 percent of seniors ages 65 or up. Take that, youngs.
