    Security professionals today face two difficult obstacles related to metrics:


    •     Providing clear, measurable data on the risk their enterprises face

    •     Providing useful metrics that demonstrate the progress being made by the security department.

    Despite the growing threat of cybercrime, many enterprises have no empirical method for measuring the effectiveness of their security policies and strategies, the state of security on their networks – or the danger they face. Yet, security departments have no easily-understood way to demonstrate that how their efforts are measurably improving the enterprise’s security.

    On Monday, February 27th, RedSeal’s CTO and security expert Dr. Mike Lloyd, will present “Metrics That Don’t Suck: A New Way To Measure Security Effectiveness” at Security B-Sides San Francisco. In his talk, Dr. Mike will describe useful methods for creating an enterprise security metrics program that is completely different from current, outdated models.

    He will highlight:


    •     Techniques for monitoring the threat landscape and potential exposure;

    •     Best practices for measuring effectiveness of current security systems: and

    •     Practical tools for measuring the security team’s effectiveness and performance on a regular basis.

    Dr. Lloyd’s presentation offers a new approach to building security metrics and new ways for enterprises to measure the risks and threats they face. Using benchmarking of security posture through next-generation monitoring, he outlines methods for gauging security risk and threats, and balancing them against cyber defenses and priorities. This ground-breaking set of best practices, combined with new technology for measuring security effectiveness, could change attitudes and processes across the industry.
