Redskins lose Crawford to knee injury

Washington Redskins cornerback and punt returner Richard Crawford is out for the season with a torn lateral collateral ligament and torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

He was injured while returning a punt in the first quarter of Saturday's 30-7 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Rookie Chris Thompson filled in for Crawford and returned three punts for 48 yards.

Crawford returned eight punts for 156 yards, including a 64-yarder, last year as a rookie. He was expected to be the main punter returner this year and a fifth or sixth cornerback.

Crawford was taken in the seventh round of last year's draft out of SMU.
