    RenaissanceRe: Thailand floods to cost $45M in Q4

    Reinsurance company RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. said Wednesday its initial estimated impact from the flooding in Thailand, which occurred over four months in 2011, is about $45 million on its fourth quarter results.

    The company said the final results could significantly differ from the estimate because of the magnitude of the damage and limited data received and the lengthy period of time expected for claims to be filed.

    Pembroke, Bermuda-based RenaissanceRe's fourth quarter results also will include about $31 million in losses related to RenRe Energy Advisors Ltd., the company's weather and energy risk management operations, due primarily to unusually warm weather in the United Kingdom and certain parts of the United States during the fourth quarter of 2011.

    Updated loss estimates from the February 2011 New Zealand earthquake and the Tohoku earthquake in Japan are not expected to have a significant net impact on the company's financial results for the fourth quarter.

    Shares fell 7 cents to close at $72.16. They are up 10 percent in past year.
