Report: 957,000 in Ill. to get health tax credits
Report: 957,000 in Illinois will be eligible for new federal health insurance tax credits
CHICAGO (AP) -- A health care advocacy organization says in a new report that more than 957,000 people in Illinois will become eligible next year for federal help to pay for health insurance.
Families USA released its report Thursday.
The Washington, D.C.-based group says tax credits that are part of President Obama's Affordable Care Act will be available for 957,440 people in Illinois. More than half of those eligible will have incomes between two and four times the federal poverty level. For a family of four that's between $47,100 and $94,200 a year.
The health care law allows states to set up online exchanges for people who need insurance to buy it.
State officials have estimated 486,000 Illinois residents will get coverage through the state's exchange next year and 1 million by 2016.
