Although the Cleveland Browns have not officially released their list of cuts, multiple reports online are saying that the team has made four somewhat surprising cuts: RB Dion Lewis, RB Chris Ogbonnaya, WR Nate Burleson, and OG Garrett Gilkey.
Lewis is the biggest surprise on the list, as he was named by Mike Pettine as the favorite to be the No. 3 running back last week. The big fourth preseason game from RB Isaiah Crowell might have been the final straw for Lewis, as well as Ogbonnaya, who was versatile but not exceptional with his skills.
I thought Burleson would make the roster despite having missed three preseason games with a hamstring injury, but it looks like I was wrong. I would expect the Browns to go after a receiver or two on the waiver wire. Gilkey is a surprise in the sense that he was competing for a starting role at the start of camp with John Greco, but anyone who watched him play this preseason knows that he did not look the part.
We'll have a summary of the Browns' full list of cuts when they are unveiled later today.
