Gronkowski, Amendola out for Sunday

The New England Patriots ruled out tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Danny Amendola from playing Sunday night's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Multiple media outlets reported Saturday that Gronkowski and Amendola did not make the trip to Atlanta. The Patriots officially ruled them out Sunday morning.

Gronkowski was limited in practice all week while recovering from multiple back and forearm surgeries. The NFL Network reported Sunday morning that the Patriots believe Gronkowski is ready to play but the tight end's father has pushed to keep him off the field since he re-injured himself the last time he returned during the playoffs. Gronkowski has reportedly told friends and family he may not return until the Patriots' Oct. 13 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Amendola's groin was torn off the bone. He can practice without making the injury worse but is not ready to play.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will rely on wide receivers Julian Edelman, Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson against the Falcons.
