According to a report from Automobile, the Jeep Wrangler lineup is about to get several more versions, including the much-rumored truck version of the Wrangler.

With gas prices low and SUVs and crossovers in high demand, Jeep has become vital to Fiat-Chrysler's bottom line. Speaking to investors today, FCA's CFO Richard Palmer said, "Jeep is the bedrock of this business plan." As such, the company intends to invest in expanding the Jeep brand in general while building on the Wrangler's success with more variants.

Together, Palmer and FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed the Wrangler will soon be offered as a pickup truck, as well as with diesel and hybrid powertrains.

The need to meet stricter emissions requirements is the driving force behind the decision to offer diesel and hybrid powertrain options on the next-generation Wrangler. The upcoming redesign is also speculated to include a switch to an aluminum construction to save weight and increase fuel economy.

According to the report, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer could also make a comeback sometime soon. Until we hear official word on that, we'll be over here daydreaming about a diesel Wrangler.
