Report: Syrian rebels end evacuation in Homs

BEIRUT (AP) — Syria's state TV says the last group of rebels has left the central city of Homs.

The TV says the last fighters left the city late Thursday afternoon, putting it under full government control for the first time in more than two years.

Syrian troops are expected to take over the areas that the rebels left.

The evacuation in Homs was carried out under a cease-fire that also led to the release of 70 people held by rebels in various areas and the passage of aid to eight government-held villages blockaded by rebels in the north.

A banner on Syrian TV read: "Old Homs is totally clean of armed terrorist groups."

Homs Gov. Talal Barazi said earlier in the day that more than 1,500 fighters left the city since Wednesday.
