Report: Titans contacted Russell

The Tennessee Titans contacted former No. 1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell after starting quarterback Jake Locker was injured, ESPN reported Sunday.

Russell was reportedly interested in joining the team but cannot because of a knee injury he sustained during the summer that he is still rehabbing.

Russell has not played since 2009. He had a tryout with the Chicago Bears in June but was inconsistent throwing the football and went unsigned during the preseason.

Russell was drafted first by the Oakland Raiders in 2007. In 25 starts, completed 52.1 percent of his passes for 18 touchdowns, 23 interceptions and a passer rating of 65.2.

Locker is expected to miss at least four weeks with hip and knee injuries he sustained a week ago against the New York Jets.
