Report: Vaccines generally safe, some side effects

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vaccines can cause certain side effects but serious ones appear very rare — and there's no link with autism and Type 1 diabetes, the Institute of Medicine says in the first comprehensive safety review in 17 years.

The report released Thursday isn't aimed at nervous parents. And the side effects it lists as proven are some that doctors long have known about, such as fever-caused seizures and occasional brain inflammation.

Instead, the review comes at the request of the government's Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, which as the name implies, pays damages to people who are injured by vaccines. Federal law requires this type of independent review as officials update side effects on that list to be sure they agree with the latest science.

"Vaccines are important tools in preventing serious infectious disease across the lifespan, from infancy through adulthood. All health care interventions, however, carry the possibility of risk and vaccines are no exception," said pediatrician and bioethicist Dr. Ellen Wright Clayton of Vanderbilt University, who chaired the institute panel.

Still, the report stresses that vaccines generally are safe, and it may help doctors address worries from a small but vocal anti-vaccine movement. Some vaccine-preventable diseases, including measles, are on the rise.

"I am hopeful that it will allay some people's concerns," Clayton said.

The review echoed numerous other scientific reports that dismiss an autism link.

But it found convincing evidence of 14 side effects:

—Fever-triggered seizures, which seldom cause long-term consequences, from the measles-mumps-rubella, or MMR, vaccine.

—MMR also can cause a rare form of brain inflammation in some people with immune problems.

—The varicella vaccine against chickenpox sometimes triggers that viral infection, resulting in widespread chickenpox or a painful relative called shingles. It also occasionally can lead to pneumonia, hepatitis or meningitis.

—Six vaccines — MMR and the chickenpox, hepatitis B, meningococcal and tetanus-containing vaccines — can cause severe allergic reactions known as anaphylaxis.

—Vaccines in general sometimes trigger fainting or a type of shoulder inflammation.

There's suggestive evidence but not proof of a few other side effects, including anaphylaxis from the human papillomavirus, or HPV, vaccine and short-term joint pain in some women and children from the MMR vaccine.

On the other hand, the report cleared flu shots of blame for two long-suspected side effects: Bell's palsy and worsening of asthma.

That doesn't mean there aren't other side effects — the review couldn't find enough evidence to decide about more than 100 other possibilities. Some vaccines are just too new to link to something really rare. Another example: Flu shots have long come with a caution about rare, paralyzing Guillain-Barre syndrome, but Clayton said research hasn't settled if that's a coincidence since the disorder is more common during the winter.

The Health Resources and Services Administration, which runs the vaccine compensation program, is reviewing the report but said it's too early to predict if it will prompt changes to the injury list.

There have been no reputable studies that have linked autism to vaccines. Despite this, the paranoid conspiracy theorists continue to spread their "theories" as if they were facts. FACT: vaccines of various types have saved countless lives. How many people do you know that have been crippled or killed by polio lately? How about measles, mumps or rubella? WAIT - Maybe you do know some of these people - were they VACCINATED?

Hey you guys believe the report that vaccines are safe and that they give good health right? Not me, or other informed/educated people, actually most people that don't trust vaccines are highly educated. Here is another reason that might convince you that this report is hogwash.ATLANTA (AP) — A presidential panel on Monday disclosed shocking new details of U.S. medical experiments done in Guatemala in the 1940s, including a decision to re-infect a dying woman in a syphilis study.

people just need something to blame and #$%$ about.. no amount of evidence, no matter slap in their face proof, will change this.People, life is ugly. People are gong to die. Doing something is better than nothing. Life has to deal with sacrifices, with out those, we will never gain anything in our future. We must learn from the valuable life lessons every life on earth can give.. even if they are only here for a moment of a breath.

"Hey man, it's ok if you die from getting this vaccine! Doctors and scientists will learn from it in the future! Go ahead, bite the bullet!" is pretty much what you're saying. You need to get some sun kiddo, why don't you come out from the basement. It'll be alright!

"Doing something is better than nothing."

Oh yeah? Hippocrates said "FIRST do no harm."

VACCINES HARM. THE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST ARE RAMPANT.

If you want to get stuck with a needle full of chit, go ahead. Go quarantine yourself afterwards, because I don't want to catch what YOU just willingly gave yourself in the name of 'health'.

How many vaccinations have you received in your lifetime, Joe? And how many did your parents and your siblings, if any, receive?
    • FED up with feds  •  9 mths ago
all drugs have side effects but you still take aspirin and if you go to hospital you use drugs there so either don't use any also don't take blood it might be tainted don't eat food it has chemicals don't breathe is is contaminated

research can read anything you want it to wakefield finds the way he wants because the grants are not from big companies he is just #$%$ because he wasn't good enough to get one

The MMR link to autism that Dr. Wakefield suggested over a decade ago has just gained more attention and validation thanks to Wake Forest University's new research BACKING UP DR. ANDREW WAKEFIELD. Many of you, obviously had missed that piece of news just as you probably missed every other piece of research backing up Dr. Wakefield and the numerous other doctors who have advanced this fact, this fact being that the ingredients in vaccines cause autism, which really isn't autism at all, it's vaccine poisoning. Aluminum & Mercury are Neuro-toxins, they effect the nervous system and one or the other or both are in most vaccines peddled to US daily. Oh, research recently came out calling the flu vaccine worthless; news out that the H1N1 caused a 700% increase in miscarriages in pregnant women who took that vaccine; research with scientists stating they'd never get vaccinated again due to what they found aluminum hydroxide does to cells; it kills them.

Fever from multiple shots close together is a good candidate for one of the triggers of Autism. How many of you know there are now upwards of 4 ,5, 6 vaccines per shot, and that there are 12-15 of these type shots given before the age of two? Or that we have now reached the number of 32-36 vaccines before school age? Back in the mid-late 80s and early 90's my kids got a total of 6 shots before they entered grade school.

I wonder if anyone here is okay with squalene and monkey and bovine and chicken embryos now being injected to their newborns and toddlers.

In hospitals now they are trying to get away with Hep B vaccines for newborns because of outbreaks of Hep B in hospitals. Yes, that is right, a vaccine for sexually transmitted disease for newborns. Why? Because nurses are failing to maintain proper hygiene going from one ward to another and then entering the nurseries. So instead of testing and improving hygiene they are covering their rears by injecting the newborn. Be aware and opt out, demand your newborn rooms in with you at all times, and never let your newborn out of the room or demand your husband stay with your newborn at all times because they WILL inject with or with out your permission if they can get away with it.

Vaccinate or don't, the choice is yours, but you better be aware of the risks on both sides of the equation. Delay, separate and space them out.

Stop the vaccines, let nature take is course.

Sure. Let thousands, if not millions die horrible premature deaths. Let's party like it's 1799!

Too bad they didn't have a vaccine to cure or prevent IGNORANCE!!! LOL!!!
      • T.K. 9 mths ago
No, why? we need 80+ years olds behind the wheel with a bag of selected drugs (most with multiple DO NOTs) to drive on sidewalks or into the stores. its called natural selection thanks to pharma companies
    • U R Right  •  9 mths ago
Autism is not a tragedy, but ignorance IS!
      • Ninja Dude 9 mths ago
If not the vaccine then what do you think is contributing to widespread autism amongst kids? Whatever you think is the culprit i will research it during my lunch break
      • T.K. 9 mths ago
autism is not a tragedy? i just wish u will never encounter one. Because the families i have seen with autistic child are really tragic. at least don't talk about ignorance because u are the definition of the word
      • Dom 9 mths ago
V.O.R., you are wasting your time. You cannot disabuse people by rational argument of beliefs that they did not come by rationally.
    • Ninja Dude  •  9 mths ago
my nephew got vaccinated after i warned his parents about the risk for autism and sure enough he got autism. proir to getting vaccinated he showed no signs of autism whatsoever. i may not be a scientist but everyone should take a good look at the facts before making a decision to vaccinate their kid. blindly following doctors isn't progressive at all. what i find to be appalling is that these kid doctors won't even allow kids into their office who haven't been vaccinated even though there is no law mandating vaccination. that kinda puts parents in a corner which i feel is unfair and unjust. this article admits that vaccines have side effects but consider it to be "generally safe". thats double talk if you ask me. seizures and brain inflammation isn't good for kids but considering the fact it doesn't happen to every kid that is vaccinated doesn't make vaccines safe
      • U R Right 9 mths ago
Double-talk? Generally safe means just that. The MAJORITY of those receiving vaccinations have very little to no side-effects to them. My 8 year old son is autistic and showed signs and symptoms of the disorder early in life...no big change from before to after any vaccination. Do I believe that the vaccinations had anything to do with his being autistic? No. Is my youngest child (5 years old) fully vaccinated? YES! ALL of my children are fully vaccinated, with the exception of the latest HPV vaccination. The advice that I have gotten so far from medical professionals that they are guarded about the use of this vaccine.

Why is there NO link to the study included??? And why has this headline been up on Yahoo News for over 4 days?? This is pure propaganda and I think authors/writers or whoever is writing this as news should be FINED. I do not think it is responsible writing or even ETHICAL to put a headline out there and not even site the study. That is pure nonsense.
    • Ninja Dude  •  9 mths ago
Paid propanganda by big pharma hits yahoo news once again. Jonas Salk and his SV40 virus surely gave a lot of people cancer last time i checked. Mercury in vaccines has caused widespread autism but they won't admit that neither. I can go on for days about their eugenics operations to dumb down the population and to make us serville. Hey... but don't worry the FDA and federal govt loves you and they would never do anything to hurt you.
    • T.K.  •  9 mths ago
why don't vaccine manufacturers sell them for the cost. this will clear out any suspicions. or why not government makes vaccines. in most countries anything that causes epidemics is controlled by government and not for profit
    • Bring'EmHome  •  9 mths ago
The Institute of Medicine, has issued a report that declares the MMR vaccine is not linked to autism. This is now being widely reported in the conventional (controlled) media, which isn't telling you the real story behind this report.

What's the real story? That this IoM report, even though it goes out of its way to excuse vaccines and dismiss safety concerns, still openly admits that vaccines cause measles, febrile seizures, anaphylactic shock and other potentially fatal side effects. It also admits that other vaccines are linked to a whole host of bizarre side effects, including skin lesions, difficulty breathing and live virus infections.
    • Leroybraun  •  9 mths ago
I have heard far too many stories from people who said their child acted normal prior to a vaccination to believe there is no connection. And, I have seen way too many dubious studies saying vaccines are ABSOLUTELY not the cause.

I had to remove the links but here is the devastating info

Because the IoM is positioned by the federal government as an independent, "prestigious" organization whose decisions are based on scientific facts. When the U.S. government rolls out its upcoming mandatory vaccination requirements, it will cite the Institute of Medicine as the source that said vaccines were safe (even though that's a lie).

The FDA, for example, cites the Institute of Medicine is setting its own vaccine policies. The USDA also turns to the IoM for its recommendations on things like school lunch programs.

Even more to the point, President Obama's recent demand that health insurance companies pay for birth control medication was based on the Institute of Medicine's recommendation. It was the IoM that put forth the guidelines to "require new health insurance plans to cover women’s preventive services" including "FDA-approved contraception methods and contraceptive counseling."

Even the CDC commissioned the IoM to study the control of viral hepatitis infections, after which the CDC quickly advised that all infants should be injected with multiple hepatitis vaccines "...as soon as they are stable and washed." In this same set of recommendations, the IoM advised that students who are not vaccinated against hepatitis B should not be allowed to attend school.

The IoM, in other words, is the go-to organization for the setting of government health policy. Never mind the fact that the IoM is two-thirds funded by government itself and also takes money from the world's top vaccine manufacturers. The conflicts of interest within the IoM are not merely notable, but severe conflicts of interest. They are so prominent, in fact, that no person in their right mind should believe a word the IoM says about vaccines, yet both the government and the mainstream media is positioning the IoM as (somehow) being a trustworthy independent non-profit that tells the truth about vaccines.

Even the Washington Legal Foundation, a group that advocates free choice in health care (and personal freedom in general), charged that the FDA could not legally accept recommendations from the Institute of Medicine because the committee members put forth by the IoM did not meet the lawful requirement of being "fairly balanced."

"Using advice from a committee that lacks fair balance encroaches upon Congress' mandate that each Advisory Committee should be representative of a broad range of viewpoints and should include affected individuals," said WLF Chief Counsel Richard Samp after filing WLF's Citizen Petition.

This is where the danger really lies. Everybody else in government listens to the IoM and usually adopts its recommendations as public health policy. And yet the IoM is actually run and financed by a complex network of globalists and vaccine promoters, as you'll see below.

Because of the IoM's unchallenged influence in setting public health policy, we are all being set up for a military-run mass vaccination campaign funded in part by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, and relying on vaccine-tracking information technology from companies like Northrup Grumman, a weapons manufacturer with a history of illegal international arms trafficking. (More details below.)

This is what vaccines have become in America today: A military agenda against the People. And the IoM sits at the hub of influence for this diabolical command center. This is all explained in more detail in the rest of this story, as well as in upcoming stories about the IoM slated for publication here on Natural News.

Please share this story far and wide so that your friends and colleagues can learn the truth about the IoM and where its money really comes from.

How come Villages that do not Vaccinate don't have Autism? Also I think I would rather have my child have Chicken pox rather than all the very harmful side effects. Do you take the chance on your precious child. NOT ME!! People be informed don't just be a sheep and follow what the Gov says get your facts before putting your precious child in danger. Find out what is in those Vaccines, you would be surprised what you have been injecting into your little ones.

I grew up during the "polio era" and I was #$%$ glad to get that vaccine! You folks have no idea what a real epidemic is.... trouble is your beliefs endanger others.
