Reports: Syrian rebels battle for border crossing

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish media says Syrian rebels and regime forces have resumed a battle for control of a border crossing with Turkey.

The private Dogan news agency says rebels were on Wednesday trying to seize a customs building at the Tal Abyad border gate.

Clashes for control of the border broke out on Tuesday. The rebels control several other border crossings into Turkey but it is believed to be the first time they have tried to take the border area in the northern Raqqa province.

Dogan news agency video showed smoke rising from a small explosion at the top of the four-story customs building.

Authorities say three people in Turkey have been hit by stray bullets. Turkish schools near the border were closed and residents were urged to stay away.
