Republican Perry says Romney health plan cost jobs

JEFFERSON, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry said Thursday the health care bill GOP rival Mitt Romney enacted in Massachusetts paved the way for President Barack Obama's federal health law last year and cost the state jobs.

Perry's criticism was his sharpest yet of Romney, who led in national polls of Republican voters until Perry entered the race last month.

And it came in the wake of three days of heavy criticism by Romney of statements Perry has made about Social Security.

"I think it's important that we put as our nominee someone that does not blur the lines between President Obama and the Republican Party," Perry told about 200 Republican activists in Iowa, where the 2012 presidential nominating campaign begins this winter.

Perry said the Massachusetts health care plan Romney signed in 2006 contributed to the state's low rank in job growth during his one term as governor from 2003 to 2007.

Perry was referring to a study published by conservative Beacon Hill Institute at Suffolk University which stated that the Massachusetts program has cost the state thousands of jobs, raised health care costs and slowed income growth.

Perry promotes Texas' job growth as he campaigns for the GOP nomination, casting his efforts to reduce regulations and curb litigation as a model for the nation's lingering high unemployment. Texas has added more than 1 million jobs during Perry's decade as governor.

Jobs and the economy are a leading issue in the race for the GOP nomination, and Romney has touted his decades of work as a venture capitalist and investment company founder before serving as governor as expertise he could use as president to guide an economic recovery.

Since Perry's entry into the race, Romney has criticized the Texan for being too tied to the public sector at a time when a business-minded leader is needed as the nominee.

Perry's attack cuts directly at the niche in the race Romney has worked to create in his second bid for the nomination.

"The difference between me and President Obama are going to be very, very great," Perry said. "What we have done will serve as a blueprint for this country."

Romney has shifted his approach to Perry this month, criticizing instead his statements about Social Security, including that the federal retirement program should be dismantled and run by individual states. Romney raised the issue during a Republican candidates' debate in Florida on Monday, where Perry also faced criticism from rivals about his support for education benefits for children of illegal immigrants and an executive order he signed requiring school-age girls to be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease.

"Gov. Perry was clearly rattled by his poor debate performance in Tampa," Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said. "As a result, he is trying desperately to distract people from the very serious questions that were raised about his record."

Rick Perry has all the answers for American.

1 Restore honor to the military and finish the job in the middle east. We need a tough president that will use US power to stop US enemies. Perry will finish the job in the middle east. Iran is next to invade and occupy. Protect our oil and stop our enemies. Perry has the guts to do it.

      2. End the socializing of american and balance the budget. The House has taken the first step by ending Medicare. We need to end the VA. Why should old solders be forced into socialized medicine from the government. End the VA and let them buy proper health insurance in the market. If they cant do that there are many charities and charity hospitals that will to step up to the plate. Join me and Perry by allow veteran escape the government controlled socialized heath care. Perry and I are against social secuity "a ponzi scheme" and medicare and VA "socialised medicine".

      3. End social security, families should take care of their own. That is call personal responsibility. With the ending of social security, medicare and the VA there will be plenty of money to fund the solders in Iraq, Afghanistan and soon Iran and ever cut taxes.

4 . End the false teaching by the so called experts. Both canidates for gov. in Alabama were against evolution. Perry is against teaching globlal warming. Does the bible say anything about evolution or global warming? No. It should be banned in the classroom. Everything that is taught should should be consistant with the bible. Look how atheist have corrupted mathematics for instance, irrational number, imagery number and even transcendental numbers. All we need are natural numbers, the one given to man by god. All these subject must be compared to the bible.

      5. This is a Christian nation and Christian should run the government to support Christian, true christians like Perry and Bachmann (not like Romney). Lets go back to our pilgrim past. Pligram came across the ocean to have the religous freedom to set up a government and a state church to support their true religion. where does it say "seperation of church and state". (no where)

Make the country strong and proud.

If you love this country and God mark up this comment.
If you dont mark this comment down

What a nut case! Do away with the VA win we have hundreds of thousands of veterans including myself that depend on our care for injuries suffered defending your freedom? You're a clown! And, I must add, why would we want laws enacted based on the Bible as was stated in the post above? That uncannily close to Islamist beliefs... crazy to think it's people like you who are voting in this country! Idiot.

Rick Perry "gained" a million jobs, but he LOST at least 1.6 million jobs, for a NET LOSS of 600,000 jobs! Unemployment in Texas has risen from 4.2% to 8.5% over those 10.5 years Perry is bragging about. What a joke!

Mitt gained jobs, from 5.9% to 4.7%.

F-en republicans...and t-faggers.....i admit the GOP are winning, they have managed to waste our money on wars and tax cuts and now they are poised to cut social programs...programs that make America the Best in the WORLD. SS and medicare are sustainable, they have been for over 70 years for SOcial Security. it's sad, we middle class voters are going to stand by and let these clowns destroy our greatest distinction. The gov't is made by the people to take care of the people....in all aspects, as soon as we forget that, we are no better than Communist Russia or China or the Monarchies of England which our fathers escaped...because as you can see, regardless all gov't that make people miserable are gov't that don't care...communist or not, rich or poor...it's doesn't matter...dont listen to this conservative crap about "gov't taking care of you" instead ask yourself, do you want a gov't that doesn't give a ssshhh---ttt?

I am so sick of GOP's generic prefix of "job killing" for anything they don't like. BACK IT UP! PROVE IT.........I don't think they can, its just propaganda. You want job killing? How about all the visas for IT workers, u don't think that's "job killing" to US workers? How about your policies that caused the 2008 crash? 9%+ unemployment. How about the offshoring they support by US corps? THOSE are US job killers...........do something about those !

Is Perry going to write executive orders for forced vaccines on the country when he is president? Probably depends on who contributes the most to his campaign. If that doesn't scare the hell out of you then I don't know what would!

Rick Perry has proven that he can be bought. He did so with Merk and the vaccine issue! He said he was offended to think he could be bought for ony $5,000, but never said he couldn't be bought. He is not a true statesman. It is out blantantly in your face.

I am currently investigate Ron Paul, so far he seems like the best candidate. I'm glad that he is older too for he is probably wiser because of it!

Romney's plan costs jobs? Rick Perry's plan costs way more:
Can 60 legislators, two gubernatorial candidates, and the Texas State Employees Union be wrong about Accenture? Gov. Rick Perry and his top lieutenants seem to think so, as they are always quick to defend the controversial contractor the state hired last year to process applications for social services. But last week, one of Perry's opponents, Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, raised the stakes with the release of a 161-page report that accuses Accenture of taking Texas to the cleaners on the $899 million contract.
The report charges that the agreement between Accenture and the Health and Human Services Commission was crafted to benefit Accenture's bottom line and that the company has already profited despite a series of widely reported missteps, including ill-timed layoff announcements and the swift drop of more than 20,000 needy children from the Children's Health Insurance Program in the last year. The report also faulted HHSC for handing Accenture the job without much forethought, resulting in a transitional train wreck of sorts.

The comptroller's office launched an investigation into Accenture five months ago at the request of three lawmakers – Sen. Eliot Shapleigh, D-El Paso, and Reps. Carter Casteel, R-New Braunfels, and Carlos Uresti, D-San Antonio.

What dumb #$%$ Perry didn't say is that the M#$%$. health plan is wildly popular. It has brought access to health care to hundreds of thousands of people who would not have had it. Since a great deal more health care has been bought and paid for by so many more people, it's hard to believe that this plan has not grown jobs, no matter how many times fools and scoundrels say that it hasn't..The other question that remains is how many lives have been saved by this law.

health plan screwed me, my boss laid a bunch of us off, sold the trucks, and now outsources
    • Cassie  •  8 mths ago
I remember when the Mass. health plan was enacted and states across the country were looking at it to decide whether it heralded the future. Now, I'm not in a position to evaluate whether it has been successful or not - and that's not the point. The point is that the state did have the initiative to try something new in an attempt to solve a problem. Romney should embrace that fact and, if he deems it appropriate, give his assessment of what was learned. Instead he runs from it because the tea party hates it.
I really dislike political parties! Why even bother with candidates? The party dictates and the candidates dare not deviate.

What a clown. The invention of the computer "cost jobs" Should we do away with those too? Let's all take special care to call #$%$ on our politicians, especially those we support. The more dishonest we let them be, the more they'll be dishonest with us.

To think Rick Perry, a west texas closet racist" and a "cracker fraud" could possibly be President is beyond comprehension but the American people have been so dummied down by the media with their half truth spin and contentment to be parasitic sycophants to those in power, anything is possible in America now. If you think Rick Perry is an answer to America’s problems you are delusional. Make no mistake about this: Rick Perry is a threat to America and the coming nightmare aka the 2nd civil war in America commences when you wake up and Rick Perry is CEO of the USA and you are living in poverty and/or on the street but you still have a rifle and a 9mm that you know how to use. Better yet, get an AK .
