Rest In Peace: Today Would Have Been Trayvon Martin’s 21st Birthday

Today on Feb. 5, people remember Trayvon Martin.

Trayvon Martin would have been 21 years old today (Feb. 21). And in light of the third anniversary since his untimely death, family, friends, and supporters are saying his name and remembering that his life still matters.

Trayvon’s death at the hands of George Zimmerman struck up great controversy and fueled one of the largest black movements in decades. Martin was struck down while walking home after picking up a bag of Skittles and an Arizona ice tea. While his case was heavily publicized and Zimmerman was arrested and tried in court, he was never convicted for his murder.

Despite the failed conviction, many continue to fight for justice for Trayvon Martin and the many who have followed after him. Although Trayvon will not get to celebrate his birthday, supporters demonstrate his life’s impact on the Black Lives Matter movement and prove that his life mattered then and continues to matter now.

Happy Birthday and rest in peace to Trayvon Martin. Read a few tributes to his life below:
