Retina iPad mini sales looks set to explode in Q1

Apple finally added a Retina display to its popular iPad mini tablet this past November, but severely constrained supply may have left a substantial number of consumers Retinaless this holiday season. According to a new report from Digitimes, however, there will be more than enough to go around next quarter. The site points to data from its own research arm in stating that Apple’s iPad lineup was the best-selling tablet line in the world heading into the holidays, thanks in large part to aggressive Black Friday promotions from a number of retailers. The iPad mini with Retina display, however, wasn’t even available from some retailers. According to Digitimes, any manufacturing issues Apple’s partners were having appear to have been resolved and iPad mini with Retina display shipments are expected to reach between 5 million and 6 million in Q1 2014. The site’s sources believe demand from Asia will heat up during the Lunar New Year holiday and pent-up demand elsewhere will also likely see Apple continue to sell the new iPad mini as quickly as its partners can build it.
