    RFD-TV Float in Tournament of Roses® Parade Wins a Special Trophy, Exceptional Merit

    The RFD-TV float was a tribute to the “King of the Cowboys” and featured Trigger and Bullet, and led by 100 Golden Palominos

    RFD-TV’s float in the 2012 Tournament of Roses® Parade captured the Tournament Special Trophy, an award honoring exceptional merit in multiple classifications, including floats that do not retract to 55 feet.

    RFD-TV’s spectacular 75-foot float, entitled “Happy Trails”, was a tribute to what would have been Roy Rogers 100th birthday. Roy’s faithful companions, Trigger “The Golden Palomino” and Bullet “The Wonder Dog” stood at the entrance of the float, while Roy Rogers, Jr. along with his son Dustin Rogers and their band, The High Riders, serenaded the crowd with the “Happy Trails” theme song. The RFD-TV float was the final float in the 123rd Tournament of Roses® Parade and was led symbolically by riders on 100 Golden Palominos carrying American flags.

    The RFD-TV “Happy Trails” float was designed and built by Phoenix Decorating, who won 11 trophies at the 2012 Tournament of Roses® Parade. In addition to more than 11,000 roses, 5,000 gerberas and 500 carnations used to decorate the RFD-TV “Happy Trials” float, Phoenix Decorating incorporated a mix of organic materials that mimic what Roy Rogers would’ve seen on the trails.

    The 35-foot tall classic image of the singing American cowboy was framed by a lucky silver horseshoe mirrored by pearl handled dual six-shooters and flanked by American flags. The entrance to the Rogers floral ranch was guarded by Roy’s loyal German Shepherd “Bullet” and his pride Golden Palomino “Trigger.” They sat surrounded by desert fauna underneath a bark-covered arch-gate identifying the Roy Rogers Riders Club, which at its peak boasted over 2.5 million members worldwide.

    RFD-TV decided to honor Roy Rogers after hearing this year’s parade theme, “Just Imagine…”

    “When we first learned of the parade theme, we immediately thought of Roy Rogers, no one challenged the imagination of millions of baby boomers more than Roy Rogers,” said Patrick Gottsch, founder and president of RFD-TV. “Whether it was playing cowboy in the back yard or dreaming of having a palomino horse or German shepherd dog of their own after watching one of the 88 movies or 100 episodes of The Roy Rogers Show, young minds were inspired for decades to just imagine.”

    RFD-TV continues to honor the memory of Roy Rogers by airing The Roy Rogers Show and Classic Roy Rogers Movies, and by offering Roy Rogers Jr. live performances starting in 2012.

    The Roy Rogers TV Show airs every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. EST on RFD-TV, repeating at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Roy Rogers movies premiere every Tuesday at 2 p.m. EST and repeats at 12:00 a.m.

    Beginning March, 2012, Roy Rogers, Jr., Dustin Rogers, and their western group, The High Riders, will be performing western music in daily 2pm “live” shows at RFD-TV The Theatre in Branson, Mo.
