RI player wins $336 million Powerball jackpot

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Lottery officials say someone who played the Powerball in Rhode Island has won the $336.4 million jackpot.

The new multimillionaire has not stepped forward and the lottery has not said where the winning ticket was sold. To win, the player had to match all of Saturday's five numbers, 1-10-37-52-57, and Powerball number 11.

Because of rising sales, the jackpot nearly doubled from $173.5 million on Feb. 1.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

I know money can't buy you happiness but poverty sure as hell can't buy anything.

If there is no state tax the winner should get approx. $157 million after Fed Tax. That is $157 million take home..Put an untouchable $100 million in treasuries at 4%...and spend the rest..homes, Yachts, Cars.. you will receive $4 Million each year minus capital gains taxes...so only take $2 million , leave the other $2 million invested and after taxes that is still about $1.5 Million a year or $125,000 a month and your investment grows from $100 Million to $102 Million...and so on... JUST...Make sure that you can afford to maintain the properties you buy and still live good on $1.5 million a year..after taxes.

Really? That's what the rich want you to do, to prove you can't be trusted with money. You can turn $120 millin into a billion in 2 years, if you don't spend it like an idiot.
      • Ernest 3 mths ago
@Susan, how can you turn $120 million into $1 Billion in 2 years?
    • Clock  •  3 mths ago

-change your cell and landline numbers immediately
-Start a new private email address only for family.
      -Quit your job.
-Go live in a hotel somewhere nice for about a 3 months, until the local media decides to leave you alone.
-Put your house up for sale and move where people don't know you have that much money.
-Buy a gun and get lessons on how to use it along with a concealed carry permit.
-Go blow a million right away to get it out of your system. Only to lock the rest up at a bank for 12 months. Don't spend any of the money you've locked up the first year.
-Don't buy that sports car that you'll kill yourself in until after the first 12 months...
-Do NOT put your money in the stock market. Keep it in cash or money markets... You do not "need" to take risk any longer. Protect what you have.
-Put 3 lawyers on retainer. Why? Have one keep an eye on the other 2, and because any idiot that finds out you have money will try to sue you in an effort to have you just cut them a small check to make them go away, DEFEND YOURSELF.
-Buy a $10 million liability insurance policy. You'll need it because of the lawsuits that will come your way.

No, because they doubled the ticket price to $2. Another media lie.

they raised it to 2 dollars a ticket saying it would produce more winners. Then they let it build to 336 million and just one winner. Sorry but that just not right, why not 3 to 10 winner's.

All this talk about, "Why don't they use it to create a scholarship fund", or, "Think of all the good that he/she could do for other people with this money". People are so ready to give advice to the winners of these jackpots as to how to spend their money. If the winner wants to blow it all in a month or chooses to invest it, it's their business. Sure, I would have loved to have been the winner, but I'm not. I am not dumb enough to think that I should have any say in how someone else spends his/her money. Jealousy is a terrible thing.
